I agree. I don't know what you're arguing about.

I’m not arguing anything. Just don’t see the point in trying to make this piece of coal look like a diamond.

**** Vinny Curry...

I'd rather draft Davenport at #7 then have signed Curry to this deal..

This is complete trash...

Lol I said he might get 7 sacks. Not exactly a diamond. I think Ayers got 7 sacks his first year here. I really just think that we signed Curry because he's three years younger.

I disagree he's a "piece of coal," but agree he isn't a "diamond." I haven't seen anyone hype him as such either.

There is a very big gap between "coal" and "diamond." In that gap there are players that can help make a team better.

*Disclaimer: I do not want Davenport at 7... but I'd love an edge rusher in the first to go along with Curry.

I doubt there's anyone out there that thinks signing Curry is then end of our search for an improved pass rush. And if anyone at One Buc Place feels that our woes are solved... well, they'll probably have a new work address this time next year.

That said, it's still a good move.

I feel pretty meh about this, but he seems hungry to play a bigger role so we’ll see how it goes.

Meh. Whatever. 7 sacks for $9mil apy and 3 years younger. I get it. It’s a whatever signing. Forget the coal/diamond analogy too.

Truth. We had the worst pass rush in the league last year, and we're quite possibly worse now considering we lost McDonald who had a quarter of our production. In no way do we think we're done. We went after Quinn, Bennet and some other edge rushers in FA. Just haven't been able to pull it off.

On extra note on the Vinny Curry contract with Bucs: Per source, $6.5M is fully guaranteed at signing.

Curry is a marginal upgrade from Ayers. At least he gets to stay with his boy beau.

I'll say this, at least our depth on the defensive line is a little better.

Best thing to hope for is a player who is somewhat of a late-bloomer in terms of production. Hope he can be a 7-sacks or more a year player here.

At the very least, lets hope he can match Ayers 2 sacks from last season lol. And maybe he can play more than 12 games while he's at it.

Sad but true.

I love the fans crying about upgrading the pass rush but bitch about when we do. Like, the draft literally hasn't happened yet and people whine about not having Davenport (who would be a huge disappointment at 7, like really). There's nothing left in FA, there wasn't much to begin with. Curry as as good as an upgrade as you could possibly get in this environment. Sorry we didn't get JJ Watt for a 5th rounder guys...

This exactly. We are a better team with him. At worst he is good depth and a younger version of Ayers, and possibly a bit more. He's a good signing.

Have you guys noticed that our local media is acting like we just fixed our pass rush? I like the signing, but I in no way feel satisfied with it. But, that's the impression I'm getting from these journalists.

This maybe should be it’s own thread, but when do we talk about Will Gholston making $6.5mil this year? 0 sacks last year, 21 total tackles. Played in 14 games including 10 starts. 10 career sacks total. Yea he’s a good run defender, but our run defense was almost as bad as our pass defense last year.

It only comes to mind because some people are salty about Curry. But I almost would have rather have kept Ayers and cut Gholston. At least Ayers offers SOME pass rush.

Ok, woke up, 2 cups of coffee in me, not drunk anymore....

This signing is still trash..

All we need to know is Philly let this younger version of Robert Ayers so they could keep/have a real pass rush threat in old as Michael Bennett..

I disagree.

Will Gholston is probably the best run stopper on our defensive line, and has been so for years. It may not always show up on the stat sheet, but he's very good at what he does. Between his skillset and Spence's, we have a complete defensive end, rotating in based on down/distance/situation.

Ayers, by contrast, was brought in to be the guy, or failing that someone who can offer productive rush snaps on a consistent basis. He wasn't the guy, so now he's gone.

I think the team plans to use him inside. They have him listed as a DT.

I'm not expecting it. It's wishful thinking at best. But as I stated in my conversation with BK, whatever on all of it. I get more excited about the draft.

He is a DT in a 4-3 for sure. Dude is 300+lbs and not quick or explosive.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m ok with Ayers being gone for Curry. I just don’t understand how people can knock Curry, but champion Gholston. Is Gholston’s run-defense so greatly leaps and bounds ahead of other ends that it offsets having zero pass rush ability? We were the 23rd ranked run defense last year. And Spence was gone after what - 2 games?

I kinda wish they’d fatten Gholston up and move him to DT. He has zero bend. The chances he’s gotten inside he actually gets decent push.
