This is really the nuts and bolts of it. The Pats have been never given Brady a bunch of talented high priced receiving targets outside of Randy Moss for a few years. All he does is make it work at an MVP level with whoever is catching the passes.

Well known for being a borderline third receiver. But hell, I'm just trying to agree with you here.

I dont follow free agency with the entire NFL to much so I got to ask. Is it normal to acquire 3/4's of your defensive line (paying them hefty money) and basically anointing them starters way before the season ever even starts?

Its like were paying you all this money, so now you've got to get the starting job and perform accordingly.

The Buccaneers during their Superbowl season. Three of the four starting defensive linemen in the Superbowl were free agents: Simeon Rice, Greg Spires, and Chartric Darby. Anthony McFarland went on IR in December.

In the 2016 offseason the Giants signed Free Agents Olivier Vernon and Damon Harrison to huge deals. In addition they franchised JPP (who was technically a Free Agent also).

So that is 3/4 of the Dline. The following season the Giants defense made a drastic turnaround from 2015 and was among the best defenses in the NFL after those additions.

As for the Bucs, Vinny Curry is the only Dlinemen we signed as a Free Agent to a "hefty" contract. Allen and Unrein aren't making as much combined as Curry. Allen is getting $5 APY, which is not much for 2nd contract player.

JPP was traded for, not a Free Agent.

I'm not sure what mdb's question was asking. The post seemed to be full of strawmen and subjectivity. It's like has a specific point to make but doesn't have the gumption to be say it directly, so he pussyfoots around it.

3 new starting d-linemen all in one year. As I thought, a bunch of pussyfootin around has not produced a match. This time last year we were all amped up for just one new guy producing on our d-line. I suggest you hold off humping the watermelons until they atleast do something.

42 defensive linemen got drafted last year, our lone pick was a 7th rounder that went on IR

In 2016 it was 42 again and our lone pick? a 2nd rounder with a chronic wing problem.

Are you seeing a pattern yet?

Yes. But what do those poor picks have to do with our FA acquisitions?

Yes. According to your research, which is probably wrong, 42 DL are drafted every year.

I didnt call them poor picks. I'm saying I'd rather build my team through the draft and Jason and the rest of ya's see it differently. It also seems 31 other teams do too.

Funny, I don't remember a "chronic wing problem" when we drafted him. It's almost like injuries sometimes happen.

Maybe it will get better, lets tie up a spot for a couple more years. Look we are going to have a new look d-line, I havnt put any of them down and I hope we do good. I would have drafted 2,3, or 4 d-linemen this year. Mainly because they would be available when we pick. Next year it may not work out that way.

You mean last year? (would have implies past tense)

Have we already given up on Noah Spence? I'm expecting him to be healthy and I still think he'll be a good player.

Lets put it this way I'm going to try and watch for how many of these DT's play good football from this draft class.

42 DL picked by 32 teams. We picked 1,which leaves 41/31. Do the math. If 31 teams are building their line through the draft, like you claim, they're mostly doing it 1 pick per year. Like the Bucs.
