James Wilder

Postby Alpha » Sun Feb 18, 2018 11:48 pm

Someone please explain to me why this man isn't in the Ring of Honor.

This needs to be fixed. And soon.

I could be mistaken...but I believe he STILL holds the Buccaneer record for most rushing yards AND receptions, for a career.

This is a ***damn travesty.

Love it when Buc fans use "franchise record" as some kind of measuring stick.

My favorite is when fans use the "Best QB in franchise history" to prop up Jameis like it means something or to excuse him when he sucks.

The "best in franchise history" thing works GREAT...on defense.

If you're a better end than Lee Roy Selmon...
A better defensive tackle than Warren Sapp...
A better linebacker than Derrick Brooks...
A better corner than Ronde Barber...
Or a better safety than John Lynch...

...you're pretty damn good.

I mean Alpha's using this 'measuring stick' as an example of why Wilder deserves to be in the Buc's Ring of Honor. The thing the Buc's use to honor their former players for their accomplishments on this team. Feel like it should be somewhat relevant in this instance. The be all, end all? Nah, but let's not act like it's not relevant

Gruber.

Giles.

...Wilder was a BEAST for completely TERRIBLE teams. He was the ONLY weapon.

What offensive player deserves to go before HIM? I LOVED Giles...but really!? Over Wilder?

Is there some sort of animosity here that I'm not aware of?

My belief is that MANY of you never saw him play...and this is where EVERYONE says they did...

Put this man IN. It's looooooooooooong overdue.

PS: I'm NO relation to him. LOL!

I suppose you never saw him play...and the teams he played for?

IF you did...what are your reasons for keeping him out?

Maybe we should "measure" his stats vs. Joe Namath...who made the HoF for ONE GAME?

It's not like this is an anomaly. He deserves to be there. Period. And IF you saw them play back then...this is a no-brainer.

And while I'm at it...Ricky Bell should be considered as well.

Not for his stats...but for what he COULD'VE been and was...for a moment.

I remember when they ran him on almost every play it seemed. the guy had the 3rd most rushing attempts in NFL history in a season. Over 400 attempts

What I remember is the power sweeps that ended in sideline collisions. The guy was tough. He started as a fullback with us and then we used him as a workhorse.

Well considering its the BUCS ROH, franchise records are relevant.

With how awesome Wilder was as a receiver, if he had played on the 49ers during his time, no question he would be in the Hall of Fame. Replace Craig with him, his career would have been prolonged with talent around him and he would have the numbers. I think his talents were only exceeded by Dickerson at the time.

No question he shoulpd already be in the Ring of Honor.

Wilder was a legendary workhorse for bad Bucs teams. He set all time NFL records for carries in a game and in a season and nearly broke the combined yardage record for a season. He wasnt a guy like Freeman who set Franchise records while doing little of note on the bigger stage, simply because the team has such an inept history at the position. He deserves to be in and I don't think it's even a debate.

Considering how pathetic those records are, and how likely they are to be broken, I'd say they are useless.
