I remember that time the Bucs signed him, and I was like a kid on Christmas morning.

I'm still bitter about the whole thing; only now, it's mostly just because I have his creamsicle jersey that is a total waste.

I don't even wear jerseys anymore, but I'd at least want the option!

He does need to retire, he had a great career but I hate seeing HOFers bounce around like this.

This. I still remember the sad spectacle of Jerry Rice sending out a letter to the 32 teams basically begging for a job.

Some players decline gradually, and some decline like Peyton Manning or Darrelle Revis. He had a meteoric decline last year and just continued it in his brief time with the Chiefs this year.

To be fair, that was only like a month ago.

I was mixed on when the Bucs acquired Revis. Yes, I understand we needed secondary help, but he was coming off a major injury the year before. What gets me is that first rounder we traded for him could have been Xavier Rhodes

Is Revis HOF worthy? He only really played 9 seasons...serious inquiry.

To be fair, we never got to see what could've been because Lovie cut him so he could sign Josh McCown, Anthony Collins, Michael Johnson and Alterraun Verner.

Those guys played a pivotal role in getting Jameis as our QB.

Hall of great. You can tell the story of the NFL without him.

In his prime, he was one of the best corners to ever play. I think he's earned a spot in Canton, you don't need to be great for 10 years to be a HOFer.

I'm still a believer in Jameis, but we haven't exactly reaped the benefits of that yet.

Respectfully disagree. There was a 5-6 year stretch where he was bar-none the best cover corner in the league. That should be enough. The story of the league standard is an iffy one for me. I don't think he should be first ballot though.

I agree there was a period of time he was the bar none best at his position. I disagree with the time period. I also feel, personally, that his impact on the game is overrated.

Tangent: There’s an overlapping period where another premier CB talent was touted as one of the best to ever play. Is Asomugha HOF material? I think it’s more than fair to compare and contrast their careers vs the current group in Canton at the position.

Revis is a HoFer, not first ballot imo, but he'll get in within his first 3-4 years of eligibility.

He was a 4x FIRST team ALL-PRO, a 7x pro-bowler, and has a SB ring.

The Super Bowl means less for non-QBs for whatever reason, but I can't recall any player being a 4x 1st team All-Pro that didn't get into the HoF pretty quick.

Asomugha at his peak alone was Hall of Fame material, but he lacks in other credentials that Hall of Famers are usually (and sometimes, unfairly) measured by, and that is lack of post-season success. In Asomugha's case, it's lack of post-season--none of his teams ever made the playoffs. His period of success was incredibly dominant but also too short-lived to overlook the fact that he did not have the opportunity to produce when the games really mattered.

Revis has more accolades, post-season success (1 Super Bowl ring), had a lengthier span of dominance in one of the two biggest sports markets in the country and then for a the dominant team of this generation.

I think it is safe to say that Revis is a Hall of Fame player, perhaps not first-ballot but I am confident he will get in.

A couple of things:

1) I know Revis is a CB and John Lynch is a Safety
2) Lynch has 3x FIRST team ALL-PRO 99-01
3) Lynch is a 9x Pro Bowler
4) Super Bowl Ring

Is there that big a difference in the corner and safety postions?

Right or wrong, yes, there is. There was also a much better group of safeties in that era than corners. Dawkins, Woodson. Lynch, Reed, Polamalu, etc. There's just a huge glut at the position right now. WIth the Corners, there's one worthwhile corner every couple of years. It's a much clearer path for whatever reason.

Good point, and I do think Lynch gets in very soon. Dawkins getting in only improves those odds moving forward.

But CB is a more premium/valuable position than Safety. Revis was also regarded as hands down the best player at his position for a 4-5 years stretch which is important when it comes to the HoF imo. Revis was also a top 3 DPOY candidate multiple years.

Lynch and Revis are both HoF players imo.

There was one year in which Revis had to play against :
T.O, Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, Chad Johnson etc (when these guys were in their PRIME), and Revis was dominant!

I can't remember the year it was but I remember saying to myself that that was the best individual cb play I have ever seen in one season.

I really do not see how Revis does not make it in the hall.

Some of you are saying he is not a 1st ballot hofamer; BUT, are you for getting just HOW dominant Revis was AND the caliber of wide outs he dominated?!

Easily a 1st ballot hall of famer. It wasn't called Revis Island for nothing.

We could also have this argument about Richard Sherman (3x 1st team all-pro and 1x 2nd team all-pro, 1 SB ring). I don't think Sherman is HOF worthy (I know his career isn't over, but, IMO, he's done).

I'm not 100% sold on Revis in the HOF, but I could see it happening because of how dominant he was in a pass-heavy league.
