If It Was Up To You?

1) Give Peyton Barber the job, more or less, and add a low-cost option or two for depth, or perhaps a scatback to compliment him.

2) Let Martin come back with a massive pay cut and try the 2017 plan again with hopefully better blocking.

3) If he hits the market, make Le'Veon Bell the highest paid RB in NFL history.

4) Use a 1st rounder on one of the stud prospects in this class (Barkley, Guice) and consider the job done.

5) Use a Day Two pick on a good prospect you expect to win the job (name your guy)

6) Add a mid-tier free agent to hopefully win the job, or at least split the carries (Jeremy Hill, Isaiah Crowell, Orleans Darwka, etc. etc)

7) Throw the kitchen sink at it with Barber, maybe a low-end free agent, a late draft pick, etc, and see what shakes out in camp. This strikes me as the likely plan FWIW.

I'm all okay with Barber being our lead back next season but all this talk about just gifting him the role is ridiculous. If we draft a talented rookie but Barber ends up winning the role or plenty of PT Mark Ingram style, awesome. If we miss out on backs and Barber is the best of a lackluster FA/late round group, hey so be it. But "lets forget about RB and just stick with Barber"? No thank you.

Even best case scenario Barber is a Mark Ingram or Jonathan Stewart. That didn't stop the Saints and Panthers from taking McCaffery and Kamara last year...

To pass on RBs because of the presence of Barber would be insanity.

I really hope to God Licht learned his lesson last year and we don't go RB shopping in the bargain bin again...
