*OFFICIAL Jon Gruden Re-Signs As Raiders Head Coach Thread!*

Postby PlinkoBuccaneer » Fri Jan 05, 2018 4:02 pm

Hi, Bucs fans. :) Multiple reports say that former Bucs Head Coach, and current ESPN Monday Night Football game analyst Jon Gruden, is offered and lured by the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, and Gruden eventually agreed to sign their 10-year, $100 million+ dollar contract, with official announcement and re-hiring on Tuesday. ;)

It’ll be weird to see him on the sidelines in different colors.

This was my fear with him coming back here. Because of his name and the $ amount of his contract, I figure'd the honeymoon period would last about 2-3 years, but then the suck would sink in...and we'd be stuck with him because the $ was too much to let him go. This is the exact situation Oakland is in.

I will say this, once Alex Smith and Philip Rivers hang 'em up, that division will be the easiest in football. It will be what the AFC South has been since Manning left. Because of that, he may win double digit games, but they'll never be contender.

His name just made him a hundred millionaire. Good on him for it!

So Davis gives Gruden 100 million and still gets his hair cut at Fantastic Sam’s? I’ll bet he promised Gruden he would build him another statue if he wins the SB.

Coaches now a days get 2-3 years then they are out. Del Rio only got 3 years. I don't think you make this move without expecting immediate results. It'll be funny if only a small portion of the deal is guaranteed or if it's really a multi-option deal.

I think he will turn it around , they have some good players . Khalil Mack is no joke and the O line with Gabe Jackson , Rodney Hudson , Donald Penn .
The thing is his Offense is so complicated to learn . I remember Jeff Garcia talking about it .

Aren't coaching contracts fully guaranteed?

Gruden back in No-Cal, huh?

He'll make the Raiders great again.

Good Luck to Coach Gruden in Oakland.

Ultimately, I just couldn't count on him being angry enough if our media department was rude to the Falcons. Dirk has that locked down.

Honestly never thought we'd see Jon Gruden back in the NFL, but it makes sense why he's making the jump now. He was highly paid at ESPN, the company has been slashing payrolls for a while now and he is taking the big bucks to get back into coaching before he takes a TV pay cut. I don't think he is worth anything near what he got, I think the Jon Gruden brand/persona brings more than his actual success. He wasn't exactly taking the NFL by storm from 2003-2008 and he's been out of the league since then. It's a big gamble, but the Raiders have been horrible since Gruden left (minus last season) and they are desperate to get back to being a glory franchise and they also need people in Oakland hype about the team before the move to Las Vegas.

In this case, he's not wrong

QB Jeff Garcia
RB Earnest Graham
TE John Gilmore
WR Antonio Bryant
WR Michael Clayton
TE Alex Smith
LT Donald Penn
LG Arron Sears
C Jeff Faine
RG Davin Joseph
RT Jeremy Trueblood

After 5 offseasons of having full control (ie hand picked GM) and 5 offseasons of full compliment of draft picks, that's the offense he had built.

Miller is right, Gruden the persona is what people are getting blinded by: the goofy long play names, waking up 3 am every morning, the pointless pre snap shifts, etc.

PG's "a beautiful mind" comparison was perfect.
