Bridgewater to hit FA. My guess is Vikings sign Cousins and Browns throw tons of money at Bridgewater.

That would be a very Cleveland thing to do.

Cleveland would be much MUCH better off drafting a QB than they would be throwing a ton of money to a QB who hasn't taken a meaningful snap since 2015 and was below average to begin with.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports (i.e., the NFL announces) that Jones will be required to pay $2 million in reimbursement for legal fees, not as a fine for conduct detrimental to the league. (Rapoport’s report came after he initially confirmed/corroborated the notion that Jones will be fined.)

Somewhere along the line, Bridgewater got labeled as "pretty good". I'm glad you said this. I've listened to analyst after analyst discuss how the Vikings need to pick between 3 good QBs, some even saying they should keep Teddy over the rest.

He's mediocre at best and I'd be very surprised if he was their starter next year (Minnesota).

People seem to have this odd fixation that he was lighting up the league. Because he’s a nice guy and sustained a bad injury, I guess. He wasn’t very good at all.

He was downright awful at times; but played significantly better than previous once they tailored the play calling to mask his weak arm.

Bridgewater just isn't very productive at all. He doesn't give his receivers chances to do their job and make plays. He takes unnecessary sacks instead of throwing the ball away when nothing is there. He doesn't always see the field well overall. He plays very timidly.

I think what got him that "pretty good" label was the fact that he has a 17-11 record and a division title. But there are times where he just cannot move his team down the field.

You'd still get a comp pick (likely a 3rd or 4th) in return to offset the initial investment (2nd and 4th).

Oh well.

It seems pretty likely that he'll be available in a few years for less than that. And it's hard to write that compensation pick in ink when his market for trade was so small despite his accomplishments and salary.

With the Rams letting Trumaine Johnson walk and the contract he'll receive in FA the Rams will likely be in line to receive a 3rd or 4th rd compensatory pick next year for him.

So the Rams sent a 2nd and 4th to the Chiefs for Peters, a 6th, and will get a comp pick (3rd or 4th) in 2019. Peters is also cheaper than Johnson the next 3 years. Great trade for the Rams.

G D Browns... just throw the bank at Cousins - he's a proven, prolific, NFL starter. Draft Barkley at #1, then take Chubb at #4 (Garrett across from Chubb  ) and be done with it

This almost makes TOO MUCH sense, hence I HIGHLY doubt the Browns will do this.

You guys seem to forget Cousins gets to pick where he wants to go. There are plenty more desirable landing spots for him that will pay well.

I doubt Cousins would ever voluntarily go to the black hole that is Cleveland.

Like us, it's a place that you go if they are the only ones paying you a ton. And Cousins is going to get paid wherever he goes.

again...did you read the story? I'll spell it out for you. The owners want their legal fees back. Goodell is paid by the owners to do their dirty work for them.

but he was urged to bring the penalties by several owners who believed that Jones had crossed an unspoken boundary by threatening his colleagues.

For an additional 2-3 mil a year, or 5-10 mil guaranteed, than what any other team would pay, I'm sure you could steer his hand to that pen and paper. The Browns are finally accumulating talent on both sides of the ball, have Gordon back, they can't afford to **** this one up with a relative risk at QB. Just plug in the guy that's shown he can do it at this level... regardless of the cost. Has Cousins ever had a target like Gordon? And then you give him a REAL RB to hand it to? Behind an actual O-line? Should be a blank check for this guy, at this moment in the franchise's history. They have a #1 overall DE, and could put a top 5 DE across from him too in this scenario. With Ben retiring soon, the Ravens on the outs, and the Bengals stuck in neutral with a mediocre QB and mediocre coach - the time is now for this team. They can't afford to **** this up

Sure it makes sense for the Browns. But if I’m Cousins I could take, possibly, a few million less and go play for someone like the Vikings who were in the NFCC game, have weapons, and an elite defense already in place?

Cousins has made $44m in the past 2 years, so while money is always a factor, anyplace he signs will be for a significant amount. If more established teams/cultures like the Vikings or Broncos are interested in Cousins and they are competitive in their compensation I would certainly sign there before taking a deal w/ the Browns.

If I'm Cousins I'd take a little less over the next 3-4 years to join a Vikings team that has a talented young roster and stability in the front office to be a perennial SB contender for the next few years.

I get that $10m or so over the span of a few years is a ton of money. But when you're career earnings are going to eclipse $170m regardless of what decision you make it makes sense to factor in how good of a fit and how important winning actually is.

It's a good point - the Vikings are a great fit - didn't realize they were sitting as good as they are with their cap room right now (just looked it up - 57 mil - 7th most, with Diggs and Barr being really the only big names they need to resign soon, and Diggs isn't going to command #1 $)

The Cowboys are not planning to meet with Dez Bryant's representation at the Combine.

EVP Stephen Jones did say the sides would meet "sooner rather than later." Due $12.5 million after another down season, Bryant is a candidate for a pay cut, though he doesn't seem like the pay cut taking type.
