Bills Fans Are Flooding Andy Dalton’s Charity With Donations

Thanks in large part to Andy Dalton, the Bills are headed to the playoffs for the first time this millennium—and Buffalo fans are showing their appreciation in a big way.

The Bills needed the Ravens to lose to Dalton’s Bengals on Sunday in order to get into the postseason and Dalton came through in the clutch to make Buffalo’s dreams come true. On a fourth-and-12 with under two minutes to play, Dalton threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd that proved to be the game-winner.

As a show of gratitude, Bills fans decided to start donating to the Andy & Jordan Dalton Foundation, the charity founded by Dalton and his wife that helps kids with serious illnesses and special needs. In just more than a day, Bills fans have contributed more than $37,000. (UPDATE: As of Tuesday morning, that total is up to $150,000!)

That’s impressive enough, but it’s even more incredible that donations are rolling in at a rate of 10 per minute.

Dalton told reporters Monday that most of the donations are for $17, because Dalton’s late touchdown snapped Buffalo’s streak of 17 seasons without a playoff appearance.

That's awesome. Good for Buffalo fans and especially good for the people that charity helps.

Latest update is 7000 donors and $170,000! That's nuts. Bills Mafia is the best group of fans, in my opinion. Crazy, fun, and in my personal experience they were very nice to my dad and I at the Bucs-Bills game this year, all throughout (not just when we lost).

Yeah, I went to a game there when I was at school in Rochester. I had no allegiance to either team playing, I just wanted to go to a game, but the crowd was great.

Yeah I'm trying to go to a game there next year when they're playing some random team and I can take the next day off just to get wasted and thrown through a table

I got the complete opposite impression from my trip to Canton for Brooks' induction. The Bills fans took over the town, and they were largely obnoxious ***holes.

Obviously I'm generalizing, but it was by far the worst impression I've had from an overall fan group. For context, I've been to games in Tampa, NJ (Jets), Landover, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Oakland, and I've spent most of my life in Philly and can walk to the Linc. Besides Oakland, I've been to all of those stadiums as the "enemy" (and except Tampa of course), and the fans weren't as bad as Bills fans who were there to celebrate a HOF induction.

Hell, I was in Jacksonville when it was overrun by Eagles and Patriots fans for the Super Bowl, and those fans weren't as obnoxious.

This story is classy though. Good on them.

Looks like Bengals fans are paying it forawrd.

Bengals fans say thanks by donating to Bortles Foundation for beating Steelers

Jacksonville, FL –- More than 100 Cincinnati Bengals fans have expressed their thanks to the Jacksonville Jaguars for beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday by donating to the Blake Bortles Foundation.

The nearly $5,000 in contributions donated so far started to come in after the Jaguars beat the Bengals’ rival, the Steelers, 45-42.

“Fans are at the core of the football experience and it’s truly exciting and rewarding when they band together, regardless of the team they cheer for, to make a positive impact in the lives of others. I greatly appreciate the support displayed by Bengals fans and they should know their support will make a difference,” said Bortles, who helped lead the Jaguars to victory Sunday by throwing for 214 yards and a touchdown.

Cincinnati sports radio host Mo Egger encouraged Bengals fans through his blog, Twitter page, and during his show Monday to, as he said, “pay it forward” and support the Bortles Foundation. Earlier this year, Buffalo Bills fans donated generously to the Bengals’ Andy Dalton Foundation after Cincinnati knocked off the Baltimore Ravens, clearing the way for the Bills’ first trip to the playoffs in 17 years.

Established in 2016, the Blake Bortles Foundation supports first responders in Oviedo and Jacksonville, Florida, and partners with organizations in Jacksonville and Oviedo to help children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) lead pursue full, independent lives. I hope this trend lasts into next season and that it remains a fun little dig at an opposing team.

Me too. I hope it doesn't go away at all. The NFL or the teams fans should match the donations as well or something.

As long as it doesn’t get too corporate. Imagine Koetter’s response if fans sent $2.83 donations on behalf of the Falcons (not a direct correlation but still). Koetter would sanitize the hell out of it and apologize for besmirching Arthur Blank’s name.
