Just as I was bagging on Jenna Laine, she comes out with this nice piece about Peyton Barber. Really rooting for him next year - would like to see us just move on from Martin and Sims and see Barber split time with a guy like Michel

If Indy knows or thinks Luck is a high injury risk from here on out, are they screwed with him considering his 70.75% guaranteed contract? Anyone know how that works? I mean how much did he make last year without even playing and who paid it? Insurance?
From Spotrac: Andrew Luck signed a 5 year, $122,970,000 contract with the Indianapolis Colts, including a $32,000,000 signing bonus, $87,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $24,594,000. In 2018, Luck will earn a base salary of $12,000,000 and a roster bonus of $6,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $24,400,000 and a dead cap value of $22,200,000.

Near as I can figure 2017 and 2018 combined he due 43.8 million. If he hurts himself again rehabbing and doesnt play I'm just guessing he loses the 12 mil for the last 2 years if he is on IR but who pays the rest?

Recent article from NFL.com have us as favorites to land Bell and Ansah:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... ll-to-bucs

Not sure about spending a lot for a RB, I know how good Bell is, but RB's always under perform when they get paid.. just sayin...

Fuckin A! He's the guy I wanted...

Hopefully this means we will see more 3-4 looks this year and get more creative with our pass rush..

If GMac doesn't like it, tough ****ing ****...

I think GMac likes good coaching. It wasn’t just GMac who complained about ineffective pass rush scheme the last two years. Other defenders spoke up anonymously echoing similar sentiments.

I like the hire. Unfortunately we still have shitty pass rushers outside of GMac at DT.

I thought McCoy didn't like the idea of our running a 3-4?

McCoy didn’t like the idea of mixing up fronts and looks. He likes keeping things simple. The guy doesn’t even seem to like twists and stunts, which I don’t understand.

It's a good hire. I'm glad.

But apparently we interviewed Craig Kuligowski, and he left the building without hiring him. He's arguably the best defensive line coach in football; I think he's a ****ing genius. That would have been a great hire.

But whatever. Welcome to the Bucs, Mr Buckner.

Maybe the new head coach will hire him in 2019.

I don't want to see too much. Our LB Corp is all wrong for it, aside from Beckwith perhaps.

LVD and/or Kwon can both play inside LB in a 3/4....

Put Spence outside at one OLB spot and start drafting pass rushers for the other one...

Or even look at this hypothetical:

ROLB Spence backed up by Lorenzo Carter (draft RD3)
RDE McCoy
NT Vea (draft RD1)
LDE (Gholston)
LOLB LVD backed up by Dorance Armstrong (RD2)

ILBs Beck and Kwon

A 3-4 can work...it could really, really work..

If we are going 3-4 we really need to spend that #7 on Vea. Our LBs are better pass rushers than our DEs anyway.

Vea is good, but drafting a dedicated nosetackle at seven would be a bit of a luxury. I'd rather reach for an undersized edge rusher for OLB.

See, that's where Vea is such a damn fine pick... because he doesn't just have to be a NT...he can also play DT in a 4-3...

And drafting him allows us to toggle back and forth between the 2 schemes...

End of the day, we've got to do something!!!...many around here daydreamt about nabbing Lawrence in FA....ain't happening...others still cling to the idea of Chubb falling to us..those chances look slimmer by the day..

I say get creative and take some risks by grabbing some undersized guys later, but in order to do that, you need a big piece upfront first..

For me that's Vea...

For others, it could be Poe in FA....

I get your point. You really want some lass rushing chops if you are drafting a DT in the top 10, see McCoy and Donald. But let’s say we pick up another asset to move down to say pick 11 or 12. I don’t know if Vea will still be there. I don’t like drafting Vea that high either but if we go 3-4 I think we need this guy.

Vea is a talent, but he's not a great enough one to cause myopic focus. There are other options for a nosetackle.

In free agency, there's Dontari Poe as the obvious prize. But Justin Ellis has talent and would lock down nosetackle immediately. Daquon Jones may be leaving the Titans. Benny Logan would be an upgrade. The Cards may not have the money to resign Xavier Williams, who incidentally started for our new D-line coach in Arizona last season.

In the draft, Da'ron Payne is going to be a very good pro nosetackle. Tim Settle has other words movement skills for a man his size.

There are others, but you get the point.
