2 ways this ends. We keep Catanzaron, which is 99.999% likely or we trade him and take no cap hit. That ain't happening because teams rarely trade for kickers and they certainly don't trade for kickers with guaranteed $3mil cap hits and guaranteed money in multiple seasons.

You're right in that the kicker workouts were already planned and have nothing to do with Thursday's game. Nothing to read into there.

As for the other point, depends on what you mean by "keep." He'll almost certainly break camp as the guy. But that $3 mil ain't going to be worth diddly-shit if he comes out and kicks 5-11 in our first three games or something.

It will when we're now a team who's almost down to counting pennies. We get zero cap savings from cutting him before next year. Doing that and then adding another salary is almost a move we can't afford to make.

The best season Matt Bryant had as Bucs kicker was making 84.8% of his kicks in 2007. Since that time we've had 4 seasons of higher FG percentages. If you want to talk missed kicks he missed 6 in 08, 5 in 07 and 06 and missed 4 in 05. He was never the great kicker fans here believe he is. Deja is 100% right. it's revisionist history. People are using his subsequent success in Atlanta as some kind of curse. No guarantee he has the same success here that he's had in ATL. Barth was better than Bryant. Bryant here was along the same lines as Patrick Murray.

Yep. Barth was the best kicker we've ever had with an 83.8% on FG's. Bryant hit on 83.1% during his career as a Buc.

Numbers can be decieving. I'll still take Automatica at his best because he was consistently 80% or better while having to routinely hit out at 50+ due to the sad offense.

Barth wasn't as good at such long range.

Finding a kicker who can hit 8 out of 10 field goals and 9 out of 10 XPs shouldn't be as hard as the underwater level in TMNT. You Gen Xers know what I'm talking about.

I've thought about a Husted nameplate for my son's Freeman jersey.
