Yes, he has lost big games. But very rarely has he lost with the better team.

This is an argument that I've heard from people inside league circles. That Reid has lost big games because he's managed to coach inferior teams into those big games. It is an interesting discussion to have. Coach Dungy struggled with our team in the playoffs, Jon Gruden came in and won a SB with that team. Was Gruden the better coach, or was it just a matter of the perfect circumstances?

Like against the Bucs at home last year?

Moves like that can really lose a locker room and even a fanbase. It highlights that you as a coach and an organization have ulterior motives.

I have yet to hear one reason for that move that makes any sense. When the Bills miss the playoffs the narrative will be “We Would have made the playoffs, but the coach only wanted to win with his guy”. That’s a fan base killer. When fans clearly seee the motive is no longer winning, but “winning my way” they’ll jump ship and it’s hard to get them back as long as that coach is in the building.

This.

And if the Chiefs are dumb enough to fire him, I'd want him here in a heartbeat.

Their entire off-season/season indicates they want to win the coaches way or someone else's way. I don't know if McDermott is the reason or their new GM, who just so happen to come from the Carolina Panthers as well. But for whatever reason I never got the sense that they believed they could win this season. And when they did it turned to I don't think they WANT to win this season...Those 2 won't be long for that job unless ownership is the one truly pulling these strings.

It's not unheard of for a team to fire a good coach that they feel won't get them over the hump....

McDermont is looking like McDaniels over there in Buffalo... smh....

Rex Ryan is quoted as saying McDermott could be fired in the next 24 hours.

Odd it comes before games starting, like he may know more

NFL Network is saying McAdoo out in NY tomorrow morning...

Why not fire him now if that's the case?

They should have fired him before the game, so the interim could start Eli.

No doubt...this is like taking the matches off your kid after he sets the house on fire..

OR the owners are fine with it and are just letting him be the fall guy..

KC losses are mounting.. could be trouble for Reid

EDIT

Per Mort (I never saw this)

Chiefs coach Andy Reid is benching....himself. He has has planned to hand over play calling to OC Matt Nagy for today's game vs. Jets although Reid will continue to have oversight, per team sources.

Hue Jackson
John Fox

Job in serious jeopardy:
Chuck Pagano
Bruce Arians
Vance Joseph

Marvin Lewis

Seat is warm, but not hot:
Jay Gruden
Adam Gase
Jason Garrett

This will be the 5th time in the last 10 years that we will finish with 4 or less wins.

The expectations going into this season were very high. Somebody if not everybody is getting fired.

Complicating matters for Dirk is Winston's regression.

He got the job on the basis of developing Winston.

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen are reporting that Ben McAdoo’s time as the Giants head coach is coming to an end, and he could be fired in the 24 hours after Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

Mcapoo out! Writing was on the wall. You got to be complete trash to get fired by the Giants half way through the season. Now only if the Bucs can follow suit.

The NFL has a 16 game season, not 24, but I get your point.

Game here game there.... miss one or 2 whats the difference. Giants have never fired a coach in season. But the Eli benching put super fuel to and already lit flame. I wonder if management knew prior to the announcement that Eli was going to be benched. I bet McApoo caught them all by surprise.

I think the coaches on their way out are:

Marvin Lewis, Hue Jackson, Chuck Pagano, John Fox and Dirk Koetter. There's always a surprise ousting and I think that will be Todd Bowles.
