Rapid Reactions: 30-20 win vs Miami

Postby Rocker » Sun Nov 19, 2017 4:32 pm

The inconsistencies on both sides of the ball continue to frustrate the hell out of me.

Koetter needs to be given an ultimatum...

Either give up being the playcaller

Or

Be fired

What I didn't like:

- Both lines continue to underwhelm;
- Our playcaller is terrible;
- Opponent has third and whatever? No problem;
- This game should never have been tied that late, we should have beat these Dolphins down.

What I liked:

- OJ Howard showed the upside he will bring to this team over the course of his career, if properly developed and used;
- The young kids continue to develop on defense (the Evans INT was awesome);
- Godwin seems like he is going to be really good when he gets the reps he needs;
- Fitz really does seem to keep the offense calm.

We have doubled our win total in the past two weeks. I shouldn't be too mad about that. Credit to the defense, they are playing very well over the past two weeks.

HOWEVER

If we played a team that was halfway competent, or if Matt Moore started instead of Jay Cutler, we would have lost this game handily. I feel that the Jets game was largely the same, in that way. We would have lost both competitions to playoff-caliber teams.

Largely, I place our current failings on the offense. You can argue coaching vs playcalling vs execution, or maybe a combination of all of those, but the offense is bad.

Koetter has never heard of a delayed handoff

Koetter calls sweeps that don’t work along with quick screen passes to Humphrey’s that don’t work.

Koetter puts Simms in and it doesn’t work.

Koetter has a great game plan to use OJ and then forgets he is on the team. We have played 10 games and we haven’t used him. No excuse for it. It is obvious that Koetter is playing favorites and forcing the ball to certain players.

That was a safety

I've never felt so meh about two wins in a row. Let's see how they play in Atlanta.

I'm not happy at all with how today went. We should never have squandered the lead like that.

While the game had serious issues....Miami finished with 83 yards rushing. They ran for 69 of those on their first run.

How many ugly wins do you have to string together to make them not ugly?

Folks complaining about the playcalling need to realize that when you can't run the ball with consistency and have a noodle armed QB who can't throw it more than 15 yards, there isn't much you can do on offence. If it wasn't for a couple of really tough penalties, it wouldn't have been a bad day on offence at all.

Fitz has enough arm strength to not limit your the playcalls. It's not as strong as Jameis's, but it doesn't matter. It's a non-issue.

And the running game is bad specifically because of the bad play calls. Continually running toss plays into a defense that has already have you outflanked before the snap is bad offense. Like many of the things in our offense.

Sorry, I respectfully disagree. Fitz is not "noodle-armed" and if you're an OC with any sand at all you can't just throw your hands up and say "welp, I guess we just can't run the ball". Identify your limitations and isolate them. Identify your strengths and capitalize on them. That's what a good OC can, should, and will do.

The two biggest limiting factors currently on THIS offense are the OL and the play caller.

Yep exactly , our Oline gets abused weekly . Today I saw at 2 if not 3 knocked flat on their ass . Embarrassing . And I thought we got bigger with the Marpet to center move

One thing that he CLEARLY does much better than Jameis is get the ball out quickly. I really, really hope Jameis is watching and studying this carefully. I know he is, but I hope that it actually has an impact on him. Jameis would be a better QB if he wouldn't hold onto the ball too long and if he could improve his ball placement. Those happen to be two areas of QB play that Fitz has the edge over Winston.

Have to say I disagree on every count. We are running tosses because of the struggles of the run game. Do you really believe Dirk just forgot how to run the ball up the middle after years of doing it successfully in Jacksonville, Atlanta, and his first year here?

If we hadn't of blown those NE and Buffalo games with missed kicks and that fumble we'd be 6-4 right now lol
