How did it end?

Postby Kress » Sat Feb 28, 2015 11:54 am

I was for some reason randomly thinking about the Philly playoff game this morning, and I realized that my brain pretty much shut down after Ronde's pick-6. I know that there was still time on the clock, but I have no idea what happened after that. So let's see....

WITHOUT googling it, do any of you know how the game ended? We obviously had to kick off, so did Philly just run out of time? Did they go out on downs and we kneeled? What happened?

Personally I have no clue. If I were to guess I'd say we went into a prevent mode and they just ran out of time.

My extremely vague recollection is that your guess is correct.

That is a really good question. I think after the pick-6, the lot of us were just in such a euphoric state at that time that we barely paid attention to what happened immediately after. Or that it could just be that the Ronde pick just became THE defining moment in Buc history, that nothing after that mattered. Once we got by Philly, we were already champs.

My answer to the question at hand: I think we did a prevent defense on the very next Eagle's possession before we got the ball back and did some kneel downs. But I don't think the Bucs ended the game on that note, even though all I remember was Brad Johnson kneeling...and to me, at that point, it was "officially" over.

(No homo): My only recollection was Simeon standing on the bleachers with no shirt on yelling "No more Vet" at the crowd.

Wait, Bootz hasn't replied with a second by second recount yet? All without googling, to be sure.

Odd.

I googled it, and it really surprised me. Post your recollections first, and then scroll back up and see what really happened here:

Spoiler:
I had no idea so much more happened. There was 3:29 left. We kicked off, and they drove all the way down to our 30 before giving it up on downs at 1:55.

We then kneeled three times and punted. By using their remaining timeouts, Philly kept the clock at 1:34 at that point.

Philly then had a nice 20 yard punt return, and pass plays of 17, 12, and 12 to get all the way down to our 7, with first and goal, when time ran out. Of course it was a 27-10 game so we all knew it was over long before that, but still. I don't think I watched any of this stuff.

All I remember was they showed the Bucs sideline a lot. Have no clue what happened on the field.

Oh hi, Peter. I see I'm in your head today.

Yeah me neither. I remember trying not to cry, I was at my friend's house, but that's all I remember. Had no idea so much time was still left on the clock.

I was probably stoned, or getting stoned.

I remember this: WILD-FM 98.7 and Buccaneer Heaven raised more than $1,300 to cover the cost of renting a plane to fly over the stadium for three hours with a banner that reads: "Go Bucs, Think Warm! Pluck the Eagles!"
and McNabb puking on the field.

I remember the Superbowl ended with Doug Jolley catching a pass and kind of falling down in heartbroken agony. That was cool.

If memory serves me...the game ended at that point.

But, my memory might be hazy. To this day, people still look at me funny when I talk about how we beat Indy on Monday Night Football.

Okay... before reading the spoiler I can emphatically say... I have no idea what happened after the pick-6. I was at a pub on Fowler & 30th St. The place had become a madhouse after Ronde's play. Everything after that became nothing but a blur.

Now that I think about it...I think that was just me playing Madden....but I quit playing at halftime when I was just totally dominating them and I got bored.

It ended shortly after Ronde's interception when Sapp & Brooks attached a saddle to Andy Reid and Gruden rode him all the way to Gino's for a victory cheesesteak.

Actually it ended with the Philadelphia airport baggage handlers refusing to load the Bucs luggage on the plane and a police escort out of the stadium because of potential rioting.

My question is, does anyone remember the score when the pick 6 happened? My memory of it is different than the reality of it.

The scores have always been easy to remember as we beat the 49ers 31-6 and the Eagles 27-10. Both totals equal 37 and then we played in Super Bowl 37. So it being 20-10 before that is pretty vivid to me for that reason.

It is odd for me because my memory has them driving down the field to take the lead. But we were up two scores at the time.

I know I remember that they couldn't take the lead on that drive, but that they could make it nail biting time with plenty of timeouts and time left on the clock. It was a "here we go again" situation, just like it was when they opened the game with that Staley touchdown. The pick six just negated the whole thing - and apparently shut my brain off. That's why I thought it would be fun to see what everyone else remembered. :drinkingdrunk:

Because the Eagles were so deep in the Bucs for a couple years at that point, had they scored on that drive (and it would have been a TD) there was absolutely no doubt they would march right down the field again and score another one for the win. That's what made the pick-6 so big. 3 score lead at that point, which would be insurmountable with the time left.

As far as the ending, no idea.

Yeah, weird. I had to read the spoiler to have any idea what happened. I also don't remember getting up on the bar stool I realized I was standing on after the play. And I certainly don't remember the rest of that evening.

Always nice to eavesdrop on a bunch of the more casual fans of the sport.

Westminister probably had a dog show that weekend, maybe that's why you folks can't remember.

Hey, anyone remember if we've won a SuperBowl or not? (Part II is going to REALLY be difficult.....)

And if so, what year!!?

No asking your husbands!

I think the Bucs are GREAT!!
