Rapid Reactions: Preseason week 1 23-12 L

Postby Nano » Fri Aug 11, 2017 9:29 pm

Stats of the Game
Image

Starting offense was crisp, but offense disappeared after the half. Defense left much to be desired. Star of the game was probably VH3. Aguayo is hopeless

Oline worries me the most. The FO trusted their guys to improve but it didn't show tonight. Similarly the run D was very undisciplined and not sound at all.

Aguayo is done. Can't have that happen and still trust him when it's real

Want to see run defense improve next week vs Fournette/Jags.

Cincy did alot of quick passing so couldn't see much pass rush.

Cut Aguayo. I mean really.. Who are we fooling? Let Folk prove he's the guy and stop this charade. I feel bad for Aguayo having to go out there and keep missing.

Our depth isn't as deep as it may seem on paper. Ryan Smith was terrible and really shouldn't be counted on anyway. He was playing against Norfolk State and Bethune Cookman 2 years ago.

We'll see how it looks with Marpet back next week vs a talented Jags front 7.

Agree on run D.

I'll need to watch the whole thing again before I hard commit to firm opinions, but this is the rapid reactions thread. Let's be rapid.

- Bullough deserves second team reps at Mike.
- Stevie is slow as **** and can't be bothered when the run isn't right at him. Even then, he's slow to react. Played uninspired.
- Jarvis Harrison (who? Number 60, offensive guard) should not be on an NFL roster. Consistently stood out in a bad way.
- Aguayo shat the bed, to the surprise of no one. One preseason game does not a career destroy, but he is shooting himself in his (kicking) foot all the time out there.
- Liufau has bad arm strength, and ran a putrid two minute. He also should not be on a NFL roster. I struggled to see the silver lining when we signed him, I struggle still.
- Sims has some shake and wiggle still. Don't sleep on him.
- The pick wasn't Fitz's fault.
- The defense as a whole had poor gap discipline, especially at the start of the game with the starters. Overpursuing led to cutbacks, which the Bengals exploited.
- We need a healthy Grimes in the regular season.

Again, I'll need to rewatch it, and the coaches film will be helpful. While there are some good things, it was a whole lotta bad tonight.

1 player isn't going to make that much of a difference. Sweezy looked slow and weak. Our tackles weren't very good. Overall bad performance up front from the starters to the 3rd string

It's not a lack of talent with Ryan Smith. He needs reps. But not ready for regular season action as a CB based on tonight.

Aguayo misses in a preseason game. I can't imagine a regular season game could improve this guy's performance. Did Martino do anything other than drop balls? Joe Dirt showed good hustle from the MLB spot.

Starting team looked decent. Apparently we aint too deep in any position, except Kicker.

No it's not talent. It's everything else. He's clearly not up to speed. Aguayo will be the talk of the night because as fans most only know basic aspects of football. But those who know what they're watching would see that Ryan Smith was putrid. And he's the primary backup to Grimes & VH3. That's scary

Martino dropped a couple but he played well. The last 1 wasn't a drop. It was good defense. Starting team was okay but up front it was bad.

I was at work for the first half listening on the radio so I only actually saw the second half but that is my big takeaway too. Still a team without depth.

Bullough had too small of a sample size but he showed hustle. I believe I saw someone say he should be our 2nd team Mike. That's casual prisoner of the moment talk. At best he's a guy you stick on your PS right now. He shouldn't be playing in NFL games right now.

Martin made it clear that he's the best RB by far on this team. It's not a debate at all. Rodgers is what he is. He's not going to carry the run game. Sims is underrated. Barber is overrated. McNichols won't make the final 53. I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in a RB off waivers later on to fill that last spot.

This is the first time I have seen him in action so you are right it is too small a sample size, but he seems like his upside is a solid ST guy.

Ryan Smith was horrendous. He's heading down Kenny Bell avenue.

Joe Dirt will hang around. His athletic limits mean he's never going to be a playmaker, but he's a guy you can count on to not make mistakes and not slack off. Plus he shows smarts and leadership, you could feel pretty comfortable in a position where he has the dot on his helmet. He'll bounce around the league as depth at worst, but he can carve himself out a career if he wants.

Winston showed some nice accuracy on the right sideline, which is his less accurate side. That was good to see.

Drops all around tonight, even from Hump. That's gonna be looked at this week, the receiver room ain't gonna be a fun place to be.

Punt team looked good again, total of 4 yards returned against us.

Elliot was definitely solid, looks like a keeper so far so that is a plus for the secondary.

LMAO. Based on 2 runs McNichols won't make the team, but saying Riley earned a look with the #2's is just "casual prisoner of the moment talk". Seems legit.

No. Based on 2 runs and his training camp practices. His skills set. And a RB position that's pretty deep he won't make it. He hasn't been very good in camp.

No based on actually attending practices, seeing him on the field. Watching tape of him. Seeing his skills set. The Hard Knocks stuff is for idiots like you who want to know more but are unable to comprehend. They make it simple by spotlighting it.

Shoulda been a PI on that 1st drive 3rd and Goal on Adam Jones covering Evans.

Otherwise a very impressive drive.

That 3rd down disconnect between Winston and Evans on the second drive sucked, but overall the passing game looks good.

Still can't run the ball though. :/
