I suck at making up wagers, so if you don't mind, I will defer task that to you.

Of course you can.

Straight up pick em'. Bucs win, I win. Bucs lose or tie, I lose.

Since you and I frequent Political discussion, let's make the wager applicable to that forum. Since the game is in early October, lets say that for the remainder of the month of October if I win you get a Bernie Sanders avatar of my choosing, and if you win I get the Donald Trump avatar of your choosing. (Stone Cold won't mind taking a break) Images must be SFW and expire on November 1st.

First... I don't think Winston is done this season, but I do think a QB will be drafted next year... that QB will not start right away either. I think Winston has 2017 and at least part of 2018 before he is done.

I am also hoping on some ojom esrsver.

No one took me up on these. 1 for 2. I really thought Huff would contribute on special teams and as WR depth. As for McNichols, I was pretty confident they'd pick Barber over him at some point. I thought they'd keep McNichols on the opening day roster and then eventually bring Barber back/up from practice squad.

To bad you didn't base the bet on yards per catch.

Jackson: 13.36
Godwin: 15.44

And no one would have believed that would happen either considering Jackson had averaged over 17 ypc in his career.

PM is broken, so here ya go:

Cheers to being an outstanding contributor to the boards. I enjoy your takes on the game, and especially enjoyed your "get to know me" post. Cheers to a heck of a bet; it was certainly much closer than I expected!

You have the pleasure of viewing one match of the League of Legends North America League Championship Series. Specifically, a match to be played on the 20th of January, between reigning NA champions Team Solo Mid (TSM) vs Team Liquid (TL). I'll be kind and give you a brief history: TSM are basically the Yankees of League of Legends, and TL are the scrappy, lovable underdogs. Luckily for you, this year changes the format from a best of three to a straight up, head to head match format.

Sure, it's not sports in the traditional sense; but Esports are making a dramatic surge into the mainstream; with many of the franchises receiving backing from traditional sports owners. One team is owned/coached by Rick Fox, for example; and major sponsors such as Gillette, Geico, T-Mobile, etc, etc are pumping in huge chunks of money.

Can't wait to read your breakdown of the match!

Re: Official BUCZONE 2017 season wager challenge thread

Postby Cheb » Thu Jan 25, 2018 3:24 pm

Okay, here we go. The game? League of Legends. It’s a PC game that has been one of the most played video games in the world for the past five years. There is a healthy professional gaming league for it. This is a battle between two of the top teams.

I am no expert on this game. Some of my players have played it, so I’ve heard of it. And after losing this bet, I made an account so I knew what was going on when I watched the game (I kinda do, I guess). My plan is to keep this open in one window while watching in another, and just type as I go.

Let’s watch some nerds play video games for money!

It’s the first week of the spring season, and this is the first game. We have Team Solo Mid (TSM), the dominant returning champions. Think of them like the Patriots, year-in and year-out consistently one of the best in the game. Against them, we have Team Liquid (TL), who has an emblem of a blue horse, which is nice. One of the Team Liquid players played on Team Solo Mid last year. Apparently, it was a surprise move. Free agency is a bitch. Wait, do these guys have free agency? Salary caps? Well, if TSM is the Patriots, this guy must be Lawyer Milloy.

So, the players are picking their champions, the guy they will play as. Team Liquid opts for a pirate, a fat guy, a purple masked man, a white haired short woman, and a man with fabulous hair. TSM goes for the classic teddy bear with a boomerrang, a dragon woman, another purple man (but this one is bald), a blue woman, and a large cow, or is that a minotaur? I'm sure these choices mean something.

The fans are rowdy.

At the start of the game, the guys go to their respective spots on the map. The guy in the middle for TSM, Bjergsen, is apparently the reigning MVP, and very good. If TSM are the Patriots, he's Tom Brady.

Now they game is starting. We are focused on the bottom, in a 2-on-2 matchup. The cow is fighting the pink man on the bottom. Blue Spear girl is hitting the cannon midget. What is going on?

It’s been three minutes of gametime, and the players are killing the little guys, called minions. They are focused on getting the last hit on them, because they get gold if they do, and you can use gold to buy items. And items give stats to your champion, so if you have better items, you will have better stats, and you'll probably win if you get into a fight. That's a relatively easy concept.

The cow and the pink man are getting back into it. Apparently, Team Liquid won that trade. I don’t really know what that means.

TSM is going for an early dragon. Pre-five minutes, and it’s an ocean drake, which helps with regeneration, and the dragon woman in the jungle gets bonuses for killing the dragon. Dragon-on-dragon violence.

There is some more skirmishing around the map. Apparently, some skirmishes are won and some are lost. Many of the calculations on winners and losers have to do with who has more health at the end, and who has used a summoner spell, like Flashing to another location or using Heal to get a speed boost and a surprise amount of health.

Control of vision on the map is also important. There is a persistent fog of war that can be alleviated by placing Vision Wards, which are used by placed periodically by players for free or by purchasing them in the shop using the aforementioned gold.

Nine minutes in, we have our first kill in the top lane. The TSM player at the top of the map was isolated and taken down three men to one. The floating man and the pirate killed the teddy bear in satisfying fashion, which was not a sentence I thought I was going to type today. Team Liquid collapsed on the lone player nicely.

The dragon lady is going for the dragon again! Ah, but the other team knew she was going for it, so they contested the neutral objective. But she got it anyways.

TSM’s MVP player is not playing like an MVP. For how much they talked him up in the pregame, Tom Brady in the middle of TSM’s team has been quiet.

The cow on Team Solo Mid got cocky and almost died, but the spear woman pulled it to safety. Ah, but because the spear lady used her special ability, so Team Liquid collapsed on them four-on-three, killing three members of TSM. One should know not to underestimate a midget with a cannon, a man in flamboyant pink armor, an obese ginger, and a masked floating gimp. And the pirate can shoot cannonballs across the map, so it’s like a five-on-three, really.

Team Liquid (TL) is now ahead of Team Solo Mid (TSM) by 2000 gold and is up four kills to zero. Per the announcers; “they are exerting their will on the map right now.” That sounds reasonable. There appears to be quite a bit of strategy in this game.

Another big team battle. TSM is getting stomped. Team Liquid is showing much more teamwork, always outnumbering their opponents at the point of attack. They are up 7-0 in kills, now 6000 in gold, and they have killed four turrets without losing a turret of their own.

Now the announcers are talking about runes, item builds, and other things over my head. It seems that the teams are regrouping after the fireworks from earlier.
And just as I say that, TSM lays a trap for TL’s middle player, the floating magic purple man, and kill him. Still down 7-1, but it’s good to get points on the board in any sport, right? TSM is blitzing onto TL’s side of the map. A bold decision, considering they are losing, but that paid off.

Now TL is going for the Baron, a purple worm that gives a team-wide bonus, making your little guys more powerful and thus making it easier to kill turrets, and eventually the other team’s base. They win the fight around the worm and they get the buff, as well as getting another pair of kills. Team Liquid has this game securely under wraps, unless they screw it up. Team Liquid takes substantial portion of Team Solo Mid’s base, and TSM is very much on the defensive.

This seems like a foregone conclusion. I’m only a novice at this, but I don’t see how the defending champions come back from this. This is like the Patriots losing to the Bills early in the season, before the Patriots really get their **** together.

And Team Liquid walks into the base and easily wins the game in about 28 minutes. The former TSM player is the MVP on Team Liquid. So, if we stick with our Patriots analogy, the former Patriot is the game MVP against his former team in the first game of the season. Shades of Lawyer Milloy, indeed.

--

It’s over. Team Liquid seems happy to have won. I don’t really know what happened as far as why Team Liquid won, but they seemed to just always outnumber TSM when they engaged in fights. Like consistent double teams on the offensive line, and TSM’s unblocked player couldn’t make a play.

What have we learned? That I should stick to football. It was a fun bet, though.
