That's a hell of a cut. Hopefully it was just soon and nothing deeper. I hope he gets better soon.

On the bright side, we get to find out how good the depth behind Grimes is. Corner depth is debatably the weakest point on the roster. Time to see how weak, or strong, it is.

I don't think I've ever seen a cut like this in football but you see it in fighting. He likely went shin vs hard object, like another shin or a helmet. Kind of gross but I wouldn't expect it to be an issue that lingers. Looks like as good a reason as any to let your old CB take it slow during the preseason, this could be a blessing in that it keeps him a bit fresher for the season.

It's a nasty flesh wound. Stitch it up and have Grimes on the stationary bike for the next 2 weeks while it heals, then put a protective pad over it when he goes back out there once the wound heals. Not a pulled muscle or torn ligament so he'll be fine, week 1 is a month away.

Let's pray to the germ gods that he doesn't contract MRSA. I don't know if I can deal with that saga again...

Definitely tore thru the hypodermic. That'll take a couple of weeks to heal. On the shin also so he likely will be on crutches for a while. At least he's a vet.

Which makes the Javien Elliott find by Jason Licht even more important. That kid has been a star in TC. Robert McClain also important to have now. I feel for JAB, but between his PED suspension and injury, we've been able to overcome his loss before. Would still rather have him around though.

Current CBs: VH3, Grimes, Smith, Elliott, McClain.

Johnathan Moxey and Maurice Fleming have both supposedly done some nice things in camp as well.

I think we are thin at CB. Grimes will probably miss preseason and I don't feel that great about what's behind VH3. We need no more injuries before Week 19 of the season.

Hopefully our lack of corner depth doesn't bite us this season.

I'm hopeful that the DL will make it so the DBs don't have to be 'great'.

Rogers is a nightmare for us (and everyone else). We may have to outscore the Pack to win. I believe that game is in Lambeau in December as well. Tough game even with a healthy roster.

Couldn't agree more..

Side note, this phone is gonna get snapped in half with the autocorrect BS it's been pulling on me lately (your for you're/Rodgers for Rogers)...it's making me read like Sanka..

Meh. I'm not too worried about it. We learned last year that the coaches like to play their CB's till their wheels fall off. As long as VH3 and Grimes stay healthy through the season, the depth isn't needed much. If one goes down, Ryan Smith is next up. Then would be JAB.

EDIT: That "Meh i'm not worried about it" isn't in regards to playing in Lambeau in December. I'm sure everyone acknowledges the difficulty of that setting.

Best remedy for a shaky secondary is a pass rush.

The injury to JudeAB sucks, but a case could be made he was our 6th CB. We still have Elliot and McClain at Nickel who imo should've already been ahead of Jude on the depth chart.

Javien Elliott has been our best Nickel CB and been taking 1st team reps there since camp started while looking fantastic.
BobbyMac is a vet who has experience in Mike Smith's system and started for the Panthers in the SB 2 years ago.

Grimes' leg wound will heal and he'll be ready for week 1. Let's just keep the other 4 healthy and I'll feel just fine about our CB depth.

Wrong again Bootz! Showing you just love to argue about anything! Grimes is a professional football player. He never went to veterinary school.

PLEASE NO GOD DAMN MRSA!

Stay home Grimes. Don't even come to the facility.

To those going to TC, hows the nickel battle looking? Highly under-covered and under-discussed for how important it is, imo.

I'm curious what you guys are seeing out of Ryan Smith at camp.

Obviously he was in over his head during the game. That isn't too surprising considering it was his first NFL action at corner and he was essentially thrown in the fire due to the Grimes injury. That said, he did flash some potential.

Everything I've read is saying he's having a strong camp. He was even named as a standout in today's practice.

What are you guys seeing?

He has looked good in camp.

My initial reaction watching the game Friday was that Ryan Smith didn't play well and had a long way to go. But after re-watching the game and keying in on plays he was involved in I've backed off that a little.

He surrendered 2-3 receptions by playing too soft. Not the end of the world by any means (especially in preseason game 1). He lost contain on the TD run by Driscoll and should've forced the play back inside. Probably his worst play of the night imo. What I did like when I had a chance to stop and rewind plays was how his athleticism shows up when reacts to a play. He was just a tardy/not seeing things quick enough Friday night and that needs to improve. But this is the same criticism that described VH3 last season as well. I hope/think that as Smith see more action and gets more comfortable he'll trust himself more out there. I thought he played too conservative, especially early on.

I must have rewound that 13 times. He made it past and was barely touched. In a 1 on 1 full contact drill, how do you barely touch the guy. Fantastic.
