Defense's 7 round mock

Postby Defense5599 » Thu Mar 16, 2017 11:46 am

I see everyone is putting together their dream drafts. I usually wait until a few days after free agency starts before putting mine together.

Here’s my mock draft that I’d love to see:

1. OJ Howard- TE Alabama

2. Taco Charlton- DE Michigan

3. Joe Mixon- RB Oklahoma

4. Eddie Jackson- FS Alabama

5. Eric Smith- OT/OG Virginia

6. Stacey Coley- WR Miami

7. Jalen Myrick- CB Minnesota
TAMPAAAAAAAAAA!!!! BAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!

Taco Charlton is being projected as a top 15 pick in some instances. Top 25 at the worst. What evaluation would call for him being a 2nd round pick?

I don’t think his pass rush skills will translate to the NFL. He just looks like a regular guy to me, like a less stout William Gholston. Maybe it's just me, but I’m not a fan of DE’s who have trouble getting off the line and his speed/quickness will not compensate for it. Most of the time at Michigan, he made a play due to hustle. That's not gonna work in the NFL.

That said, if he's gone by round 2, Demarcus Walker would be a good option for a pass rusher as well.

This time last year no one thought Noah Spence would make it out of the 1st....just saying.

He has no off-field issues nor is he undersized.

Spence is not undersized by any means. He just had multiple off field issues. Same reason why Mixon isn't going in the first round even though he is first round talent

For an everydown linemen, Spence is undersized. Teams generally like DEs with length and height. His size also limits him in defending the run. He gets washed out far too often.

Sounds like a solid 2nd round pick. Count me in!

There are 55 ranked defensive ends that are faster than he is.

My major gripe is the lack of a LB. We have a pretty big hole and nobody worth starting next to David and Alexander. Hopefully a cheap vet is signed so we aren't forced to draft LB early.

A lot of times in Mike Smith's scheme, the LB is replaced by a 5th DB.

Yeah, it's called "Nickel"..

It happens a lot in every defensive scheme..

I imagine a defensive end that can bail when the strong safety blitzs. A 4.5 DE!

I also like the thought of a DB that has comfort playing corner or safety.

But more often nowadays because of the trend towards being a passing league

An injury to Kwon or Lavonte and we're screwed..
Curious to see how Bond had developed so far.

I get the impression that OBP really likes Bond, and I think he's why we've shown zero interest in the position in free agency. Though, like most things, I wish we'd just spend the $700K and find a veteran utility option, for the reason you state here.

I understand that, but I still don't like the idea of Adarius Glanton or Devante Bond having to play a good amount of snaps on defense all year.
