Revis is a Free Man!

Postby BucaRican » Wed Mar 15, 2017 2:03 pm

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000793270/article/judge-dismisses-all-charges-in-darrelle-revis-criminal-case

A judge has dropped all charges against former Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis stemming from an alleged incident in Pittsburgh last month, NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala reported Wednesday.

Revis, 31, was facing facing five criminal charges relating to the alleged incident prior to Wednesday's preliminary hearing in Allegheny County court.

Around The NFL will have more on this story soon.

I'd be curious to see what he could do at safety, I wouldn't want the 10 million dollar contract he's going to try to get. But I would be ok if we can get him for like 6 million with either no guarantee or very little, bring him in for training camp and cut his ass if he isn't back in shape and looks somewhat like the Revis of old.

Yep...

A witness, who was identified as Revis' childhood friend, testified that he came to Revis' aid during the fight and was responsible for knocking out two men in the alleged incident, Kinkhabwala reported.

Revis doesn't have an island anymore. He rents some property in Ft. Myers that is "Beach adjacent".

He's clearly lost a couple steps, but he'd be better than what we have at the moment next to Tandyman. You can't see a Woodson type production at safety?

Impressive move, sir...maybe even better than defending go routes.

Also, in before Bootz says he would be a lack-luster signing for us...even though I kind of agree...

Charles Woodson was still a good player when he transitioned to safety. Revis was dogmeat last season.

Buyer beware.

He was bad last season, but even a goat is allowed a bad season. He didn't care and was out of shape. He has reportedly lost tab pounds and is in good form now.
The biggest thing for him is his contract. He has $6M locked in from the Jets but only if he doesn't sign elsewhere. So he's looking for at least 8. If it stays under 8, I'd be good with it. If a guy like Revis is going to put in the work of a full season for $2m it's because he's betting on himself again for future years. And I like a Revis that bets on himself.

Charles Woodson was the exception to the rule. Pass on Revis for the price tag he'll want.

Oh God you're probably right. It's probably why he hasn't signed yet. He's probably got his agent running the Dr. Evil routine i.e "How much is Revis looking for" "ONE BILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!" I respect the man for being the best shutdown corner of his day but he's getting to be too old to be doing this "GIVE ME ALL THE MONEY" **** anymore.

What if you can get him for less than that price tag? And forget safety. Revis is a corner and we would definitely need some insurance in case something happens to Hargreaves or Grimes. If he's willing to accept Verner's salary with incentives that could possibly bring it up to what he wants, I'd pull the trigger. But for no more than two years because if he's lost a step now, he'll definitely have lost one then. Plus we'll have to pay Evans/Winston by then.

Interesting tidbit on Revis... He will play for the league minimum next season if he can't find a contract paying over $6m in 2017. He had UP TO a $6m offset in his contract for 2017 w/ the Jets.

For an example of how believe this would work (I could be mistaken), if Revis signs a 1yr - $8m contract, the new team only pays $2m and the Jets pay the other $6m

Or if Revis signs a 1yr - $2m contract the Jets would have to still pay him the offset up to $6m.

Unless a team pays Darrelle Revis more than $6M, he’ll play for the minimum. Why? #Jets owe him $6M with offsets. They cover costs up to $6M

If that's the case, then I'd definitely try to bring him in for a look at safety. You don't have to keep him past training camp if he still looks like ****.

I'd like him back, just so my jersey is relevant again. It's a nice looking jersey and it's wasted.

Such a pity he didn't work here before.

No idea why we ran that defense with a guy like Revis

Id say sign him and let him play safety

I think he still has some left in the tank as a CB. And while I also wish we would've kept him, I don't think we have the need. I think we need more young talent. Gonna pass on this one.
