Chris Baker: Signing

Postby Nano » Thu Mar 09, 2017 2:43 pm

Peter Schrager‏ @PSchrags
Tampa Bay not done plucking from Washington. Barring any snags, Bucs are closing in on a deal to sign DL Chris Baker. @gmfb @NFLonFOX

Wow 6mil per year? Not bad at all. Upgraded our interior Dline immensely without overpaying. I love it!

I like the signing. Good, experienced, reasonable cost, yet doesn't do the player a disservice. I like it alot.

I hope this isn't due to McDonalds injury. I'd really like a McCoy, Baker, McDonald, Spence rotation inside. That'd be a very solid interior. But if this is so we can release McDonald then we would still need to find another DT.

Akeem Spence is a FA. He's likely done.

McDonald is very inexpensive and I haven't heard anything about an injury carrying over into next season. In fact Clint was on Bucs Live this week and seemed fine and in great spirits for next season.

Akeem Spence is an UFA right now, so we'll see.

As of now we have a pretty solid and verstatile 7-deep Defensive Line rotation

Robert Ayers
Gerald McCoy
Chris Baker
Will Gholston

Noah Spence
Jaq Smith
Clint McDonald

Technically George Johnson is also still on the roster.

It's still only 4:30 on the first day of the league year.

I like Baker's attitude. Ayers came in here and was charged with being a big mean mofo, not friendly like McCoy. Baker is in that mode, too. He isn't going to be helping opponents off the grass.

That's a stout DL to run against. And if Spence progresses as a pass rusher we could be in business

We were hit with injuries pretty bad last year. If we don't draft another DE, I'd like to check out a guy like Freeney as a rotation/depth signing. He didn't have the sack numbers last year in ATL, but he was still consistently harassing QBs.

Last I heard he was contemplating retirement after being a part of the Falcons who blew a 25 point lead in the Super bowl.

Yeah, Freeney is still a beast. But with this signing, we're looking a lot better. We NEED more mean guys.

A 6'2 320 pound big boy next to McCoy? I like it. It makes it way more difficult to double McCoy.
