Re: ***OFFICIAL 2017 NFL Offseason thread***

When he first started his career I would have said yes to Richard Sherman because I've long held the belief that it's not talking **** if you go out there and back it up. I started watching Bucs football in 2000 and by 2002 I realized that winning so often comes down to being able to take your opponent out of the game mentally. Nothing does that faster than running your mouth and immediately beating them at their game. For as tiresome as a guy like Warren Sapp could become, I understood it as a somewhat necessary evil. For all the things I can say about Sapp, I could never say that he didn't understand what it meant to be a great teammate. Sure he loved to talk about himself, but he always made sure to talk about the team as a greater unit.

But over the years Sherman has repeatedly shown that he's a different animal. He's the kind of guy who would challenge you if you got in the lunch line at the same time as him. The kind of guy that would run up to you after a game he did well in and demand that you shake his hand. If you don't he'll immediately freak out. If you found him after the game he played poorly and asked the same, you'd probably get "WHAT DID YOU GET SAY TO ME??? GET THE **** OUT OF MY FACE!!" and probably start swinging at you. The way he conducts himself to the press, the way he conducted himself with Skip Bayless, the way he conducts himself on the field -my personal favorite was his meltdown against at Altanta. Years go by and I slowly begin to realize that he's got to be one of the most volatile humans being I've ever seen.

The guy seriously needs to calm the **** down and stop taking himself so seriously. I swear he'd shout and pick a fight with everything that wasn't his own reflection. I want no part of him on the Bucs and I would be absolutely mortified as a player if I knew he was coming to my team.

This Bucs team already has had enough problems establishing a winning culture and the last thing it needs is a guy who will act like a petulant child for an entire quarter over not getting a call against one of the game's elite receivers in Mike Evans. Meltdown on the sidelines. Meltdown on the field. You name it and he'll find a reason to get angry about it.

I'm just in the "No" camp because I know they'll want insane compensation.

Perfect combo.

Yeah, NO on Sherman strictly b/c of the compensation it would require in return. We are a young team and NEED to keep adding through the Draft. Veteran FA are fine and guys like Ayers-Grimes-DJax-Baker are perfect short term fixes. Sherman is a great CB, but he'll be 29 this season w/ 2yrs left on his contract that pays $13m/yr. So giving up an early pick for a 2 yr player doesn't make sense for a team building for sustained success.

There really needs to be hundreds, if not, thousands of signs in the stands referring to this when the Falcons come to RJS this coming season.

The guy on the PA system needs to announce that ****.

Three times at a minimum prior to kickoff.

You know who couldn't come back from a 25 point deficit? The Falcons in SB 33

Hmm... So JPP says he hasn't signed a contract with the Giants.

The New York Giants and defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul agreed to a new four-year contract extension, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Pierre-Paul’s agent, Doug Hendrickson, confirmed the agreement a couple of hours after Pierre-Paul himself said no deal was done.

Here’s how the messiness unfolded on Twitter:

Has there been reports on the Vikings QB situation? Curious to see if they make Bridgewater fight for his job back.

Been a few weeks since I heard anything, but last time they were talking about him on the radio, the rumor is he's already being considered Out for 2017. Who knows though.

I don't think the Vikings even know right now. He suffered a really bad injury, and reports earlier this offseason speculated that he could miss the entire 2017 season and is targeting a March 2018 return to football activities. Vikings disputed that saying he was on schedule but won't even begin to suggest a return timetable. Even then, who knows how he'll be when he does return.

I agree. You pay for the quarterback, the guys who protect the quarterback, and the guys who kill the quarterback.

How this guy keep getting job ?

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reports Josh McCown's visit with the Jets is "going very well" and the two sides have "discussed contract parameters."

He's been in the NFL a long time and a lot of coaches have respect for his knowledge of the game and a lot of people think he'll get into coaching when he retires from playing. I'm guessing the Jets want him as a backup and possible mentor to a draft pick.

I'm not going to argue the guy is a good player, we all saw first hand in 2014 that he is not. Josh McCown's run as the Bucs' starting QB may have been the worst in the NFC South era and that's saying a lot. But being a good player doesn't always make a good mentor and vice versa. Not saying I think anyone should sign McCown, but he does have respect from a lot of people in the league and does seem like a guy better suited to coach and teach rather than play.

I have been on Footballgameplans website all morning watching his videos, not sure when he made them but he gave some good reviews of the positional rankings he has. Like I said, even if you dont agree with where he has the players ranked he does offer some good insight.

Oh I get the thought process and actually agree with it..

Those who can't do, teach..

But I've always found that in order to commit to someone's authority or teaching 2 questions have to be answered with desirable outcomes (in regards to the trainee):

1. What have you accomplished?

2. What have those you've trained/developed/coached accomplished?

If McCown were to coach up/mentor HS or college players, he might hold some clout..

But if I'm another pro QB/player, my view of him is a "dumpster fire"..

Not saying there aren't exceptions to the rule Teitan..But in both of the cases above, those guys didn't parlay horrible careers into immediate coaching positions...

In fact, I'd say that both their careers were more successful than McCown's..
