I finally just put bootz on ignore. Regardless of whether he's right or wrong, he's just insufferable . Makes this place almost unreadable.

I mean it's preseason. Attendance is always dreadfully low. However, I do maintain that LA never needed a football team, much less two. There are already way too many sports teams for a (mostly bandwagon) fan base out there to pick and choose which team to root for every year. Adding two more to the fold in a sport that historically, hasn't worked out too well for them, will prove to be a disaster.

Maybe I'm wrong and fans in LA will start showing more interest in a team that isn't the Lakers (or more recently during this past decade, the Clippers). But with the way the Dodgers and Angels are playing along with the star power surrounding those teams, the new talent (and possible addition of LeBron after the upcoming season) with the Lakers, the continued success of the Clippers, and the LA Kings not having a losing record in almost a decade, I can't fathom seeing how this won't go poorly for the NFL. It's obviously a large enough market, but the Rams are already at a handicap with how awful their team is...and the Chargers aren't too far behind.

Edit: Plus, there are a lot of fans in LA who still LOVE the Raiders. But with them going to Vegas soon, who knows?

In general, cities where you can go to the beach in November make lousy football towns, if not lousy sports towns in general. There are a few exceptions of course. But why the crap is a Los Angeleno going to spend $300 to take the family to see bad Chargers football on a 72 degree Sunday?

I agree. Although I don't know if the Chargers are leased to the new stadium being built under the same terms as the Rams.

I wish the local politicians in Oakland and the Raiders could've worked it out for the team to stay. But of all the moves the past 2 seasons I think the Raiders going to Las Vegas will work out the best. I know Vegas is viewed as just a vacation hotspot, but I have some family out there and it's more of market than it gets credit for imho. I think sports teams have just avoided it due to the stigma of gambling. The fact that so many people visit will help ensure the stadium stays full even in down years for the Raiders. But it's great for the city and will be good for the NFL imo. I just think keeping the Raiders in Oakland and moving one of the LA teams to Vegas would've been better for the NFL. But money talks and fans get screwed.

I feel bad for the Chargers these next two seasons as they will be playing in a 25k seat MLS stadium while competing for market share in a new city w/ the Rams. They should be better than the Rams which will help, but overall I don't think the NFL as a league is better off have two teams in LA based on that city's history.

Because it works in NYC, they think it will work in LA. I don't think it will work either. As soon as one of those teams is in a position they can move, I'd bet they will.

The Iggles just cut Ryan Mathews. And to answer the next question, no, not even for the first three weeks.

lol

I threw Matthews name out there a few weeks ago when the rumors were circling about him getting cut. Since then none of the back ups have shown anything to change my mind. I don't know what people are afraid of, he'll be dirt cheap. Blount, the guy that replaced him, got a 1 year 1.25M deal. It's a very very simple process. They suit up, best back wins. Period. If he's better than all our RBs that says more about them anyway, and I'd rather have the best player running the ball.

I never quite understood why he wasn't better. Part of it was injuries. The guy has played 16 games in a season once more than my dog. But he was so good at Fresno State. I never expected him to "replace" LT (nobody ever will), but I thought he'd give the Chargers a Pro Bowler all the same. I sure don't want him now.

Yep. The more I think about it, it still makes sense for all of the other events that will take place there. And the NFL would make up a measly 8 events over the year (+/- Monday/Thursday/playoff games).

Still a fun thing to joke about, imo. The stadium was built for NFL football and has a restaurant closed on the main day.

It would be nice if we could make a low level trade to New England, for one of our DE's that were not going to keep.

You actually bring up a valid point. But I don't think we have much to spare in that department ourselves. Jaq Smith is still injured so we need more from other guys. Maybe George Johnson, who at $2.25 mil will almost certainly be cut if he can't move up the depth chart. But again with Smith hurt we need depth at an already thin DE position.

Right now I'd say no but if Jaq can come back at some point before the season starts it's a possibility.
