I think it was 2, if were talking about who we got right now.

Nope. Just Smith. He got hurt 1st half vs Atlanta week 1

Doesnt the ten yard splits tell you just how quick a players first step is?

We got DE's who can do the run game.

H Jones - gone
Smith - ?

We should get another 3rd down specialist.

Your other post: George Johnson, it remains to be seen what happens with him. We got no plays from him last year.

Baker helps. Spence is in year 2. Ayers helps. Draft still to come. But we're supposed to rely on an injury prone DE coming off major knee reconstruction to provide a pass rush.

Why is there a 18 minute response time when people are focussing

Yes!

The drafting of a promising DE/edge rusher.

The fact that you choose to focus on response time further let's me know how deep on the bottle you are tonight.

I'm on the other side of the fence. I think people here overrate Smith. I think Bootz and I are the only ones who have said as much. He had a few splash plays for us and has been injured far too frequently. If he goes and plays for the 49ers he'll be just as useful for us as he was last season. If we keep him, ok, have some depth. If we lose him, our 4th/5th DE, it does NOT make DE a significant need for the team. We can grab a mid round guy to fill the spot and groom behind solid starters.

Agreed. There are a few prospects I'd like to draft that would have more upside than Smith. But, I do like Jaq, just won't be devastated if he leaves.

That's all he was: a surprise. We've likely seen the best he has to offer.

That's a sack every other game, on average, in his career (13.5 sacks in 27 games.) That's not nothing. That average leads our entire team last year. It'd lead everyone on our team not named "McCoy" in 2015, 2014, and 2013. You have to go back to Michael Bennett in 2012 to find a year when 8 sacks wouldn't lead our ends. If that's what he has to offer, I don't think it's an insignificant loss. He's also part of a nice group of run-stuffers and speed-rushers we're building on the line right now. In a rotation with Gholston, we'd get above-average production between them at that spot. In rush situations with Ayers and Spence, that could be something special.

Don't get me wrong, if SF wants to play him like a star, I'll miss him. But I think the attempts to call him overrated are misguided.

We had 4 DE's get 16 sacks! Not sure how many of Ayers sacks were as a DT though. That ------------- I would like to know.

Of course, it doesnt matter how long I wait, I know Bootz isnt going to answer that one. He's to busy making catchy statements and worrying if I drink - even though I have already told everyone I dont.

While looking at the NFL.com mock drafts I see Denver is the first team to go after the offensive tackles, so here is my question.

Can anybody see where we could get Denver to trade up with us because they fear losing their choice on their offensive lineman? Will anybody be desperate enough to go after the few top prospects or will they say ohh well it just aint happening this year.

Denver picks right after us.. They have the very next pick..

Trading with us does them no good in any way, shape or form..

Unless their GM is a ****ing moron, they aren't trading with us..

The ONLY situation that is a possibility would be if a team behind Denver is trying to trade with us because they are targeting a player Denver wants..

In this situation Denver's trading with us makes sense..

Tweet from Adam Caplan:

TE David Njoku, who visited the #Buccaneers earlier this week, will be 1 of 2 TEs to go off the board in the 1st rd.

Bootz should be happy about this.

Whether you believe it makes sense or not, teams have traded up one spot in the draft before, so the idea isn't unprecedented.

The Giants at 23 need o-line and the Seahawks at 26 do too.

I'd love the pick. Njoku is a Cane who could have played for the team 15 years ago when they were gods (back when Frank Gore was 5th string).

Uh ... Millen was a middle linebacker

^ yeah I realized that I fucked that up pretty good a while after I typed it and was too lazy to go back and fixed it. I guess I felt it more important that the statement of being a former player doesn't necessarily make for a good evaluator of talent.

Dibs me I suppose. Not like I wouldn't deserve it

Been thinking about the RB situation here, and I think the fact Licht declined Martins original 5th year option should tell you the confidence he has in him.

I really think we take a RB with one of our first 3 picks and that Martin is gonzo.

He declined the 5th year option.... then gave him a 5 year deal... Not sure where you are going there.

It's RBF. 8 times out of 10 it's going no where.

That said I don't think he's entirely wrong. I think it's possible that we target a RB early on given how strong and talented the class is.

He basically had to after the year Martin had. The initial option decline is much more telling IMO. He inherited Martin- and then even drafted Sims in his first draft don't forget.

If we don't draft a RB and bring Martin back to be the bellcow and hear things like "Martin was always our guy..." then I'll gladly eat crow.

But at this point, I'm convinced we are targeting "our guy" come the draft.

Perhaps, but I think we legit have to be left with nothing for that to happen. I could see going for AP or maybe a post-draft cut TJ Yeldon or Johnathan Stewart just as much as "sticking with Martin as our guy".
