Alliance of American Football [AAF] - Spring 2019

Postby Crocaneers » Mon Apr 09, 2018 2:33 pm

It's been more than rumors for some time .. and now the press is on .. to be first on the field prior to XFL coming in.

So far Spurrier (Orlando) and Rick Neuheisel (Southern California) are coaches

We will see where it goes

Starting to pick up steam.

Brad Childress is the ATL coach and he is bringing Michael Vick as OC

I think it's hysterical they're sniping the XFL and getting on the field first. That will surely take a lot of the wind out of the XFL's sails.

Article says Ward will "announce" the head coach, not that he will be the head coach.

This slow rollout of city sites is a good marketing strategy by AAF.

San Diego is next to get a team

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/s ... 07bfc2ced6

Former Rams coach Mike Martz, who led St. Louis to the NFC championship in 2001, is set to coach the team, but that won’t become official for a few days.

Birmingham, AL is going to get the next team. They want to develop a Southern competitive system with ATL

http://abc3340.com/sports/more-sports/b ... g-alliance

Tim Lewis named coach, and is the only no name so far.

My guess is the 8th and final team will be out west.

4 teams in the east, 4 in the west, 2 conferences.

10 game schedule allows for 6 conference games and 4 non-conference meaning the entire league will play each other at least once a season. Kinda nice.

I think that's the maximum amount of football you want to have in an offseason league.

I know I’ll give it a chance. If it is even decent football this will be a hit imo.

It'll be good earliest for college fans and draft geeks who will recognize names left out on draft day and the 7th round guys who don't make it past camp cuts.

I agree that the NW is most likely the last team. Portland seems to be a good target so they have the overall US covered.

They are very strategic in two approaches: Slow burn in the release of the teams, and going into college towns. The next round will be going back through the teams for nick names (they reportedly are doing fan polls), as well as colors.

Football fans in Oakland, CA could probably get behind a new team in a new league.

San Antonio gets the last bid .. it makes sense with the Texas football market..

https://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/pro ... 010156.php

Rumors are that Darryl "Moose" Johnston and Mike Riley (Nebraska) are up for GM / Coach

Of those 4, I like the Birmingham Iron one best. Simple, yet strong. Great football logo.

They are all logoed up . . it is still an uphill battle, but this place seems to be doing things right.

San Diego, Arizona, and Birmingham are cool. Although Arizona's team name sucks. The Hotshots?
Orlando and Atlanta look like basketball teams.
Memphis looks like Canadian football.
Salt Lake Looks like one of the generic defaults that Yahoo assigns to you for a fantasy team.
San Antonio is just kind of boring.

I'm going to wager that Orlando and San Diego end up with the coolest uniforms since they have the best color combinations. That Battleship grey for SD is pretty sweet and Blaze orange and Navy blue always look good together (with the exception of Syracuse)

Arizona had better keep the red trim to a bare minimum or they will go from looking like the packers to looking like Christmas.

Atlanta is just hideous.

I agree Hotshots looks like a terrible name, but apparently they're named in honor of a group of firefighters that lost their lives; tough to be mad at that.

As a whole, I think these are a bit of a let down, but I'm reserving full judgement until the uniforms are released.

I dig the Apollos and their logo. That is where the former Bucs are allocated, so that's cool. Not a Spurrier fan though.
