How did this team go from from dealing at the deadline to make a possible run to trading away everyone making above minimum wage in 7 months? We went from actually giving a **** about winning to saying **** it for at least the next 3 years.

I really hate this team sometimes...

I’m more excited about my pre gaming at Fergs than the actual games this year.

I have as well. The Devil Rays just acquired a bottle of Blackberry Gatorade and a snack-pack of ranch Doritos.

Who in the HOLY NAME OF GOD, would pay MONEY to see this team?

I feel bad for the season ticket holders (BOTH of you). You two are the guys taking it up the ass...

This is the Loria playbook, kids. Except Loria was smarter. He got the stadium built and THEN sold off his players...and screwed the city and the fans.

Stewie is making this team more palatable to sell. That's simply it. No need to over think this.

I really believe he's gonna sell and let the next guy deal with the stadium bullshit.

Anybody up for a prop bet over who will lose more games this year - your Rays or my Royals? I just read our projected positional players have a lower collective WAR than Mike Trout does by himself. We have one top three in the rotation pitcher, two #4s, and four shemps, but no bullpen depth. Plus rumor is we're shopping 3 of our 5 best players in Duffy, Herrera, and Whit Merrifield. Also, Whit Merrifield is one of our 5 best players, so that.

As a baseball casual, I had to read about who Loria was. When I got to the wiki article about the history of the Marlins Franchise, I found this little blurb that somebody had a little fun writing.
In 2017, Jeffrey Loria advertised for bids to sell the Miami Marlins. Former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (statistically the worst defensive player in the history of Major League Baseball) expressed interest in being involved with an ownership group, attempting initially to join a bid with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. Eventually, he became a minority partner in the eventual winning bid, a $1.2-billion offer led by Bruce Sherman, which was accepted on August 11, 2017.[29] The bid was officially submitted to Major League Baseball for analysis and approval on August 15.[30] In a hurry to get back to last place, Jeter and Sherman immediately held a complete firesale, trading away Marcell Ozuna to the Cardinals and fan-favorite and superstar Giancarlo Stanton to the Yankees.

Thank ****ing God if he does. If he's not game for the ballpark then sell the team and go. The fate of the team hinges getting out of St. Pete. That's not a diss at him either, that's just me not wanting to see the team go. A new ballpark versus relocation are pretty much one in the same right now and commissioner Manfred ain't gonna wait around much longer.

I will always give Stu his credit for trying like hell for a decade to field the best team humanly possible in a market that can barely muster 10,000 people on a Tuesday. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult and how frustrating that must have been for them.

People don't feel like it now but he is one of the best owners in MLB.

But like I said I've been calling for a full scale rebuild for years. I'm not gonna whine now that I'm finally getting it. If anything I feel more inclined to watch the games and go to them because we aren't putting lipstick on a pig anymore. Sure it's gonna suck ass to lose but I can think of worse things than an evening in St. Pete catching a ballgame in order to see these young guys who are expected to win it all for us one day get their first year in.

I'd rather lose 100 games this year than spend it praying to be good enough for even a wild card play because we started the year with our front office saying "Duuurrrr Jake Odorizzi is great!" after losing Cobb and then saying "We expect to be in the hunt" after signing Gomez.

At least our drafting FINALLY got better.

Embrace the pig boys. No more fringe .500 baseball. Better talent is on its way to Tampa Bay and if the team actually makes it to Hillsborough, we might even keep some of it!! That is of course if we're gonna go full Devil Rays and manage to **** up picking at the top of the pile.

It's close but I give the edge to the Rays in being worse. It seems like the Royals murder us without mercy every time we play. And right now the head to head record seems to be what will ultimately determine who finishers higher/lower in the standings.

AL East will be > than AL Central so rays get the "better" of this bet in losing more games.
IMO, AL East could have three playoff teams and the Central will just have the one.

Via Marc Topkin:

Potential development at #Rays camp: Top prospect RHP Brent Honeywell cut short live BP session and left with trainer. Clearly upset.

Should have traded him for that extra gallon of water for the Rays tank when we had the chance.

More from Topkin: Hearing injury issue with #Rays Honeywell is definitely arm related and of potential major concern. Hope to know more later.

Oh, cool, we ruined Honeywell. Didn't see that one coming.

Speaking of prospects....guess MLB(.com) Prospects Watch thinks we have a top 10 farm system. Our top 30 list wasn't posted with rest of the AL East and will be posted with the top 10 system list reveal

"It's kind of a shame,'' Longoria said Sunday. "I don't understand it. The guy was an All-Star last year. He's in his early prime. He's still controllable. It just doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't make sense to a lot of people. Corey will end up somewhere and continue to be the player that he is. But I kind of just feel bad for the Rays' fan base.
