That's absurd.

Well currently they are 5.5 games behind Oakland...

Brilliant observation. Feel free to show your way out----------------->

The fact remains...it would take an EPIC...HISTORICAL...collapse on the part of the A's for the Rays to sniff the playoffs. Even if the Rays went undefeated the rest of the way.

The A's are a damn good team. It's crazy...the 2 WILD CARD TEAMS will probably win 100 games.

That's just ****ing insanity.

I think that seals the season. Had to keep pace with Oakland especially how hot they must feel putting up 21 on Angels.

I think the best we can hope for is Snell for AL Cy Young and Wendle for ROTY. Just don't think there are enough games to catch Oakland nor NY. Any other year and we'd be in.....such is the life for a Tampa sports fan.

Cash could well win the AL MOTY. I saw a tweet say we've made 19 trades since December. I don't think I even thought we'd win more than 70 games and here we are possibly going to it 90 before the year is over

Because...it happens. This team has been the best in the MLB since the ASB. They're on a ****ing tear.

Cut them a break.

We weren't catching the A's, regardless.

It doesn't diminish how good this team is...and will be.

Nope...and he never had a shot. He SHOULD finish 2nd...but might finish 3rd.

The A's are in the same position we're in (regarding salary limitations). Their manager is winning that award...and he should. They've had an amazing year...as opposed to our amazing year.

On a side note...on behalf of all Rays fans, I'd like to personally thank the Pittsburgh Pirates for sending us Austin Meadows in excahnge for that "ace", Chris Archer.

Pirate fans must be ****ing pissed...he'll be a starting OF for us, next year. And that kid can RAKE...

Congratulations to Blake Snell.

He has quietly had one of the most dominant seasons in MLB history.

Been fortunate enough to watch his last 7 or 8 starts (scheduling quirk). The last time I remember seeing multiple performances this dominant were in Doc Gooden's rookie year...and Snell was better.

He's come a long way. I remember the beginning of last year, he was so terrible. Now, he's the likely Cy Young winner. lol

W/L 21-5
ERA 1.90
SO 211
BB 60 (2 IBB)
WHIP 0.962

That is somewhat respectable.

Since 1908, only three pitchers have had an ERA of less than 2.00, at least 250 strikeouts and 50 or fewer walks:

Christy Mathewson (1908)
Pedro Martinez (2000)
Jacob deGrom (2018)

And for when the win/loss guys show up:

If the Mets had scored 4 runs in each of Jacob deGrom’s starts, he would be 30-0

If they had scored 3, he’d be 25-1

If they had scored 2, he’d be 20-6

In 3 starts, he drove in the only run the Mets scored for him. One of those 3 he won.

From The Athletic (which, if you don't subscribe, I HIGHLY recommend changing that):

Image

And one final bit:

The pitchers who have started against deGrom have pitched to a 2.46 ERA in 168 innings. If this were combined into a single pitcher, he would rank third in the NL in ERA (one-hundredth of a run behind Aaron Nola) and have a legit shot at finishing in the top five in this year’s National League Cy Young voting. (That pitcher would also be 9-9.)

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. The Mets' offense sucks? Is that it? Not really on topic, but I suppose you must spread your misery somewhere.

Jacob deGrom. The soon-to-be NL Cy Young winner. The only knock against him is his W-L at 10-9. The Mets offense numbers are posted to refute the notion that pitcher wins matter.

Because the Mets' offense is so bad that it gives opposing tems a lot of wins? Fine, we get it. The Mets suck. Get back on topic, please. We're talking pitching over here.

Get used to it. This team has 100 losses written all over it.

With the Rays sitting at 89-72 with 1 game to play, I'm here to eat my crow. Wow! What a season considering the expectations for this team going into the season. Sadly it won't result in a playoff berth, but these youngsters have no reason to hang their heads.

Here's hoping they have an even better 2019.

Congrats to the Rays! 90-72! Most years, we'd probably be close to a wildcard...not this year though.

It was a pretty fun season though, this team played its heart out. Exceeded the expectations of even the most optimistic fans. Cash has shown he can win and exceed expectations. Let's hope we go even farther in 2019! :)

I'm not knocking JDG at ALL. He is a ****ing STUD and it's a damn shame he plays on such a shitty team.

But it's simply more difficult to do it in the AL...and don't attempt to argue the point. As much as I hate the DH...it matters.

JDG is CLEARLY the best pitcher in the NL this year and should win the CY...but that in NO WAY diminishes how dominant Snell has been (this year), in a league where it's more difficult to be.

And don't get it twisted...Snell's numbers against the Astros, Red Sox and Yankees are BETTER...and ALL 3 of those teams are better than the NL's best.

Now...show me again what a dominant season looks like?
