This series against the O's should be...interesting. Neither team really knows how they're starting at this point. We're supposedly doing 3 straight bullpen days(Where Sergio Romo probably starts for an inning and then Yarbough, Pruitt, or Andriese pitch the bulk of the game). O's don't have a ****ing clue who they're starting right now...TBA.

Think our only healthy starters right now are Archer and Snell

They're pissing me off.

When I watch, they lose. When I don't watch, they win.

And now it's inning to inning. Last weekend against Baltimore. I settle in for the game and the rays give up 3 runs and have 9 batters faced in the top of the first, and I'm all like "here we go again" and go find something else to do but leave the TV on. Walk by a while later and its 7-3 Rays. Sit down for half an inning since the Rays are up to bat....1 2 3. Nada.

Frickin' bullshit.

Question for the Rays fans - Saw something maybe a week or two ago about Sergio Romo starting all your games. Haven't really followed it too much, but the reasoning is interesting.

How long did this go on for? You still doing it? How is/was it working?

Rays pitching strategy right now is...weird. Our strategy for some of the games right now is that Romo(or like Stanek today) are "Closing the 1st inning". For the most part, they only pitch like an inning(in one case, Romo came out after 1 batter), and then either Kittridge, Andriese, Yarbough, or Pruitt pitch the bulk of the game.

The strategy is more mental than anything. Other teams have no way to strategize against the Rays pitching on these bullpen days...you don't really know who you're going to face and for how long. Can't optimize a lineup that may only have an advantage for 3 innings. Seems like it's actually working somewhat too as we've managed to pull ourselves above .500(especially with our historically atrocious start) and we're not giving up as many runs in these games as we used to.

Singer keeps falling. If he's there at 16 and we do some stupid **** like take another shortstop then I'm done with this team.

lol wow I didn't think Liberatore would last that long. Good ****. I'm legitimately happy about this. Along with McKay we are getting some really decent pitching. If they nail the next 4 picks like this one then I'll be damned if we won't be fully rebuilt in a couple of years.

We drafted LHP Matthew Liberatore. Rated as the 4th best prospect by MLB.com and #2 by Baseball America.

In an age when radar gun readings often rule the day, Liberatore stood out on the summer showcase circuit more with his feel for pitching than plus velocity. He threw 12 shutout innings for the 18U U.S. National Team, and there was a reason he got the ball for their gold medal game against Korea, won by Liberatore thanks to his six scoreless frames.

There are better fastballs among the deep high school pitching crop in this Draft class, but Liberatore's pitchability is what separates him. That's not to say he doesn't have good stuff, because he has the potential to eventually develop three pitches that could garner a 60 on the 20-to-80 scouting scale. He'll throw his fastball in the 89-94 mph range, maintaining the velocity throughout his starts, and he opened some eyes by touching 96-97 mph frequently in the early stages of the spring. He's also made mechanical changes to vastly improve his command of the pitch. He throws a slower curveball with three-quarters tilt and good spin rate and introduced a new, and very effective, slider this spring. And his changeup gives him a third secondary pitch that could be plus when all is said and done.

The top left-hander in the Draft class, Liberatore has thrown well enough this spring to cement himself as a potential top 10 pick in June.

I'm curious how we're going to play McKay. If he reaches his potential, he's a better 2-way prospect than Ohtani. From what the minor league reports say, there's little he can't do right now....

...Maybe he can even play SS

Fuckin stud that kid is. I cannot believe he fell to us. I seriously thought we'd end up with someone else like Singer or Rocker.

lmfao!! True enough. McKay is cutting through his competition like a hot knife through butter as a pitcher. As a position player he may or may not pan out. If I had to choose I hope he would take 1B seeing as he's left handed. The only other positions I want to see us really address is 3B, OF and C. Score there and we should be ready to contend in a couple of years. I'm confident between Arroyo and Adames we can figure out 2B and SS indefinitely. I think we can hang onto Snell indefinitely and maybe Archer can be used to fetch us another starting prospect. Provided that McKay and Liberatore reach their full potential we'll have a great pitching staff again in a few years.

Don't blame me for other teams passing on Liberatore.

Back to back picks coming up with a few more good pitchers sitting out there. Fingers crossed we take another one and a position player.

I gotta look up Schnell but I'm happy we took McClanahan. Call me a sucker but I love it when a guy can throw 100 mph like he does.

I just saw McClanahan's story on Bay News 9 last week. Really rooting for him and I hope he can contribute for the Rays 1 day. Lefties who throw 100 don't come around often.

They really don't. I miss the hell out of Jake McGee for the very reason that he'd wind up and you knew it was gonna be something like 97 mph. Not that the 100 mph pitch was a regular thing with him but speed is speed and if the Rays can get McClanahan to clean up his mechanics and develop a good off-speed pitch once he has hitters trying to time up his fastball then we'll have a hell of an option with him. And he had Tommy John surgery.

In any event I couldn't be happier about the picks we got. Our front office has finally turned the corner. For months leading up to the 2011 draft all we could think about was how we had 12 picks inside the first 89 and yet we managed to pass on Jackie Bradley Jr 3 freaking times for guys like Hager and Mahtook until Snell remained our single consolation prize of that draft.

So we DFA Brad Miller. This was to make room for..........our 5th rated prospect(#2 1B, and 55th overall) Jake Bauers. Randomly looking at the list...the #1 rated 1B prospect in the MLB is Brenden McKay
