There's actually a little more to it than, "they just try and beat us up".

They've been playing playoff hockey for a month now...and they're actually a really good team.

You're setting yourself up for a rant if NJ whips our ass...and that could DEFINITELY happen.

We should know pretty quick on Thursday , I expect this team to be flying around , if we don’t look like a different team on Thursday then something is wrong

I think we win in 7. Emphasis on the word think.

I can already see it now:

We lose game one and the usual suspects will come here ranting about how it's "all over". This team "blows". Fire everyone. Blah, blah, blah.

You know it's coming. I know it's coming.

The Devils are NOT a team that got "Lucky" and backed into the playoffs. 97 points is a damn good year. Top to bottom, we have the better talent and players. That said, New Jersey plays us well. Some teams are just bad match-ups. I think Toronto feels the same way about us. We seem to have TOR number, even though the teams are very evenly matched. NJ just matches up well against us and I wouldn't be shocked to see them beat us.

I think we have the depth to grind out a tough series win and I think that depth will ultimately be the difference but if ANYONE thinks this series is gonna be a cake-walk for Tampa...they're in for a surprise.

The one part of this match-up that I really think favors TB...is the experience factor.

TJ has a PROVEN track record of showing up come playoff time. Same with Killorn and Kuch.

We have Stanley Cup winners on this team.

Most of our guys have played on teams that have made VERY deep runs in the playoffs.

Who knows? The middling way this team has played down the stretch has all of us concerned. That said...maybe they flip the switch now that the playoffs are here. Maybe they come out and smoke NJ in 5 games. They put down NJ quickly and suddenly...all of the pessimism disappears.

God I love the NHL playoffs...

WED night...PIT v PHI

Looking forward to this one. It's gonna be nasty.

And 2 of my closest friends are PIT fans.

They are the ONLY team, I'd be ok losing against. That said, they just aren't as deep as they have been. I really don't think they pose much of a threat. That said...NOBODY would be shocked to see a PIT/TB ECF.

Not to piss you off, but I hope there is no game 5 and the Bolts are chillin' while waiting to see who their next round opponent will be.

I agree. Ideally I’d like for us to sweep them as well. Wouldn’t be mad at all. The only reason we chose that game was because a couple high school buddies are coming down for the game. Otherwise we’d be going this weekend.

Yeah...I figured as a fan you'd be good with a sweep.

Well, well, well.

It's playoff time so it's time to hear from the guys you NEVER hear about until the playoffs start. TJ and Killorn.

WTF is it with TJ and the playoffs!? You haven't heard a peep from that MF'er for the last month...and here we go again.

Things I liked:

1) Our depth is amazing. Our 2nd and 3rd lines were absolutely DOMINATING tonight. NJ just couldn't compete there.

2) Another 30 SoG game by our defense...against a very fast and dangerous NJ offense. Funny how those 45+ SoG games have dwindled since McD has joined the club.

3) Stammer and Kuch looked good. Real good. But it's the playoffs.

4) Vasy played a very good game tonight. He's had some rest. He looks on point.

Not so much like:

1) You all saw tonight...NJ isn't going to fold like Philly. IF TB doesn't bring it EVERY SHIFT, EVERY NIGHT, NJ will win games. As in more than one. I was very impressed by their effort. This game was MUCH closer than 5-2. NJ looked young and inexperienced in the first...and we came out playing very well. When the Devils got their **** together, they made it a game that could've gone either way. How many of us sphinctered BADLY when they made it 3-2? Exactly. We have a playoff track record of playing well this time of year so I'm hopeful...but this series isn't over. At all.

2) Kuch isn't shooting. He's passing. Yeah...he pantsed the **** out of that guy at the end but (I haven't looked it up), I don't remember him having a SoG tonight. That HAS to change. Fast. Phil (Esposito) made a comment at the end about how he thinks that empty netter was badly needed by Kuch to get him going...Ugh. Not what we need to hear.

3) Yeah...NJ is one of the few teams that can match our speed...but that 2nd period...we looked old and slow in comparison. NJ plays like they did for the last half of the game, they'll win game 2. IF they do...this is going 7. Mark my words...

One last thing...

Game 2 scares the **** out of me...and it shouldn't...but it really does.

Over the last 3 years, we have a history of winning playoff games on the road...but in the first round, it would be nice not to see us HAVE to. The Rangers series a couple of years ago comes to mind...

The way NJ played tonight...and the way we have played all year? I could EASILY see us shitting the bed SAT night. Coming out flat (as opposed to tonight) and letting a hungry, young Devil's team stick it to us. It's not the regular season, I get it...but this team has shown that they can go autopilot at ANY time.

This is why we've brought in the Kunitz types.

That **** had BETTER not happen.

Kuch hasn't been himself for the past month or so imo. Not skating as hard and not being as aggressive on offense. Hopefully that empty netter gets him going b/c when he's playing well the Bolts score 4-5 goals most nights.

Luckily the Bolts are so damn talented and deep they really don't need Kuch to be great, but just healthy tbh. As long as the Vasy is locked and the defense is playing hard they'll be very tough in a 7 game series.

Palat was great last night building a 3-0 lead, but it was his dumbass that allowed a soft goal due to a terrible pass in the Bolts defensive zone. Then we gave up a PP goal and were suddenly on the verge of blowing a 3-0 lead. Need to tighten that **** up.

A lot of people are shitting on Palat about the “assist” to Hall; but the replay showed that the puck was deflected almost immediately after he let it go by one of our own (McD?) which put it on the wrong side the outlet man. Hall did Hall things with it.
