It has a club option for 2018 if his rehab goes well.

That doesn't change the fact that we paid 2 mil for a guy that won't play this year.

Ever heard of a buy-low investment opportunity?

Well of course but when I think of an investment opportunity for the future I think of something along the lines of when we traded Forsythe for De Leon. Considering we are in rebuilding mode it's a trade that's a kick in the balls but it's the proper kind of trade you make if you're serious about restocking the pitching pipeline. As for a guy like Eovaldi of course the operative words here were "buy low." But it just seems hypocritical to me that the Rays would dump a couple million bucks on a completely average player who may never play again and won't even play for us THIS YEAR when the Rays front office gives the same, "We need to spend carefully" speech that they do every year. And you know what? I completely get that and never get upset when the Rays say that. We don't support the team well, our ballpark is awful and I doubt we ever turn a serious profit.

If this were a multi-year deal I'd be singing a completely different song right now because at least it would see Eovaldi through is rehab. But no matter what happens he'ss gonna cash in and by this time next year the Rays front office is gonna come out to the world $2 million lighter with their pockets turned out.

But at the end of the day this feels nothing more than a Hail Mary so the front office can say, "Look at what we did. We gave this guy a chance when no one else would!" when he goes back to throwing for an ERA above 4 like he always has. Our office lacks credibility right now because almost every move we'd made over the last 3 years has completely backfired and God knows we haven't drafted a legitimate #1 prospect since David Price almost 10 years ago. We've got the 4th overall pick this year and if we manage to balk at this one then we might as well just fire the whole damn scouting staff.

The sad truth is if this signing actually DID work out it would rank up there with one of the bigger boosts this team has gotten since trading for Wil Myers -and that's not saying a whole lot.

Kiermaier got an extension. 6 years, 53.5 mill

Rays haven't looked terrible during ST, so that's improvement

lol wishful thinking on their end. That trade ain't gonna happen unless A+ players are coming back. If Evan is happy here then don't trade him until someone pays out their nose. This Rays team isn't going anywhere fast and I think a rebuild has been in order for some time now.
