Do you think you guys retain Cueto? His name keeps coming up (Along with Price and Zimmerman) as targets the Cubs might go after. After last night, I think he helped his payday either way.

I would be shocked if he's back in KC. Alex Gordon is going to be a free agent, and in the next two years we're going to have to pay (or lose) Hosmer, Cain, Moustakas, Sal Perez, and Wade Davis, amongst others. As it stands we have to find a right fielder and at least 2 starters, and I doubt we're going to dramatically increase payroll. So I just can't fathom offering Cueto anything near what the Cubs (Yanks, Sawks, Dodgers, etc) will offer him. I don't think he was ever going to be anything but a rental.

Top of the 12th - Colon just drove in a run to make it 3-2. Wade Davis will come in to close it out.

Congrats, Royals. They take advantage of every single mistake and make the teams make the play. That's how you win.

It's probably for the best any way, Harvey has that innings limit for his bum arm and those World Series rings look pretty heavy.

I don't understand why they would go after Price. (Not being a shitty Rays fan, btw) Don't they have a bunch of holes throughout their team? I don't keep up with them, so I actually don't know. What's their projected lineup look like for next season? Do they have a bullpen? That's a whole lot of money to be putting into one guy for a team who finished last.

Never-the-less, I'm actually excited to see him a couple times this year. He's still on of my favorites. Plus the Rays have had some success against him the few times they've played him.

Price may join Steve Carlton in the club of winning a Cy Young on a last place team. Could be interesting to watch.

$35 mil APY, basically. Egads. Not going to be a ton of mid-level free agent bargain pitchers this year. The Royals have done well with those guys in recent years - Edison Volquez, Jeremy Guthrie, Jason Vargas, Ervin Santana. Guys like that are going to be $12 mil APY at this rate.

So the Marlins hired Barry Bonds as hitting coach. I know he is one of the greatest hitters of all time. This is a terrible decision though. Almost laughable.

Why? The PR hit?

His talents as a hitter even pre roids are undeniable

This. One of the best hitters of his era. If he can teach players how to hit better and improve their approach it's a major win.

Just because you can do.. Doesn't mean you can teach.

I'm not worried about the PR hit. Marlins and PR hit are basically synonyms. I also think steroids belong back in baseball.

I've heard stories of Barry Bonds watching teammates struggle to find what was wrong with their swing and just kind of laugh.. "You can't figure it out?".

I do love the idea of Stanton learning the plate discipline of Bonds.

I know that. But as I said if he can help out in anyway it's a win. But I forgot you were the Marlins fan. Naturally you're critical of such a move. It's understandable.

Stanton is no doubt the major reason behind this hire. The threat he represents in every at bat. You're right. If Bonds can help him with plate discipline, watch out.

The Royals bring back Joakim Soria on a 3 year, $25 mil deal, or thereabouts. More than I thought we'd be willing to spend on a 7th inning guy, but it's obvious how much this group values relief pitching. I wonder how much Soria's popularity here mattered to the deal, though. Before Hosmer/Moose/Cain/Salvy and those guys got to KC, Soria was possibly our 2nd most popular player behind Gordon. I didn't watch him much since he left. I hope he can still through that disgusting 1-7 curveball.

Anyway, along with Hochevar and hopefully Tim Collins supporting Herrera and Wade Davis, the pen should be lethal again. Now we have to bring back Chris Young, add one more starter, and probably 2 outfielders. Lotta work to do. Still modestly optimistic about bringing Gordo back. Sounds like Zobrist is gone, though.
